Job summary

Ciena is seeking a Senior Level Field Service Technician to lead deployments for US Federal Government networks. You will troubleshoot, upgrade networks, and mentor field technicians, delivering seamless services.

The role requires hands-on network experience, strong customer communication, and flexibility to travel domestically and internationally. You will work within a team focused on high-quality delivery and operational excellence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 8–12 years of telecom installation, provisioning, testing, live network migration, and consulting.
• Advanced knowledge of Ciena products, with emphasis on Ciena 6500.
• US citizenship and a valid US driver’s license.
• Ability to work off-hours and travel domestically (50–75%) and internationally as needed.

Responsibilities

• Deliver Tier 1 technical support for deployment services projects.
• Provide remote and onsite technical support, troubleshoot complex issues, and mentor field technicians.
• Execute advanced network upgrades with minimal end-user disruption.
• Draft and implement network test plans and non-intrusive MOPs.
• Perform network audits, architecture design, and modernization planning.
• Serve as a key technical interface to customers with proactive communication.
• Collaborate with internal teams to improve field deployment processes and Right First Time initiatives.

How You Will Contribute:

• Deliver Tier 1 technical support for deployment services projects, ensuring seamless network transformation and modernization for US Federal Government customers.

• Provide remote and onsite technical support, troubleshoot complex issues, and mentor field technicians.

• Execute advanced network upgrades, including channel additions, node insertions, traffic migrations, and hardware/software updates, without impacting end-user services.

• Draft and implement network test plans and non-intrusive Methods of Procedure (MOPs) to ensure stable network operations.

• Perform network audits, architecture design, and modernization planning to evolve customer networks via the EMOP process.

• Serve as a key technical interface to customers, ensuring proactive communication and timely resolution of technical challenges.

• Collaborate with internal teams to recommend enhancements to field deployment processes and drive improvements through Right First Time initiatives.
  

The Must Haves:

• Technical or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.

• 8-12 years of experience in telecom installation, provisioning, testing, live network migration, and consulting.

• Advanced knowledge of Ciena products, with essential expertise in Ciena 6500.

• US citizenship and a valid US driver's license.

• Ability to work during off-hours maintenance windows and travel domestically (50-75%) and internationally as needed.

• DoD SECRET Clearance preferred.

Pay Range:

The annual pay range for this position in the USA is $96,900 - $154,700 USD.

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.

Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
