The Texas A&M University System Offices in Austin, Texas seeks an Assistant Vice Chancellor in State Relations to serve as system legislative liaison for southern Texas institutions. Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science or related field.
  • Four years of experience with the legislature, government, or higher education.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the state and federal legislative processes.
  • Ability to build relationships with legislative and leadership staff.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
  • Master’s degree preferred for advanced roles.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the System liaison for assigned south Texas institutions.
  • Provide strategic legislative approaches to support needs of institutions.
  • Work with elected members and staff to secure state appropriations and legislation.
  • Assist Federal Relations in managing relationships with federal offices.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with campuses and government officials.
  • Coordinate high-profile visits and events with legislators.
  • Identify opportunities for funding via the state appropriations process.
  • Monitor and analyze legislation affecting TAMUS and report updates.
  • Prepare materials for speeches, hearings, and correspondence.
  • Research policy issues and prepare policy papers.
