Job summary

Newcode.ai seeks a Legal Engineer to serve as the client-facing bridge between customers and Engineering. You will translate legal requirements into scalable, AI-powered workflows and own long-term customer success.

The role requires traveling across the United States and periodic trips to Oslo, partnering with law firms and internal teams to deliver measurable value. The position is on-site in Chicago, with frequent collaboration across Legal, Product, and Customer Success to shape AI-native

Qualifications

• Experience practicing at a U.S. law firm.
• 3–7 years of legal practice experience.
• LSAT score at or above the 70th percentile.
• Experience from a law firm associate, judicial clerkship, in-house role, KM, or legal operations.
• Hands-on experience with AI, such as training users, leading an internal rollout, or building an AI-powered tool.

Responsibilities

• Translate customer requirements for the Engineering team while owning client relationships.
• Design, build, and refine AI-enabled workflows to solve real legal challenges.
• Onboard, run workshops, pilot programs, and establish success metrics with customers.
• Partner with Sales to support renewals and identify expansion opportunities.
• Gather customer feedback and influence product development based on needs.

Role Overview
This is a client-facing position in which you will work directly with customers and translate their requirements for our Engineering team. As a Legal Engineer, you will own customer relationships and become a trusted partner, taking the time to understand how each customer works, the challenges they face, and where Newcode can have the greatest impact. As the bridge between our customers and Engineering, you will combine legal expertise, product thinking, and customer success skills to ensure our platform solves real-world problems and continues to evolve based on customer needs.
This role is based on-site in Chicago and requires regular travel throughout the United States and periodic travel to Oslo, Norway.
Key Areas:
Drive Legal Innovation

• Partner with law firms, partners, innovation teams, and Engineering to design and deliver AI-powered solutions that solve real legal challenges.
• Design, build, and continuously refine AI-enabled, agentic workflows that align with law firm customers' goals, and deliver measurable value through address practical use casesautomation and process optimization.
• Develop a deep understanding of each customer's legal workflows, business objectives, and operational challenges, and translate their requirements into scalable solutions, optimized prompts, and practical use cases.
• Document best practices and create reusable playbooks to accelerate future customer implementations.
• Stay on top of the latest AI developments and translate relevant advances into practical solutions for law firm customers.
  

Own the Customer Journey

• Own customer relationships from onboarding through long-term adoption and success, acting as a trusted strategic advisor who helps customers succeed with AI.
• Lead onboarding sessions, workshops, and pilot programs; establish success metrics; and proactively address adoption challenges to drive use across teams and practice areas.
• Lead regular meetings with clients to understand their priorities, review progress, and align on next steps.
• Partner with Sales to support renewals, identify expansion opportunities, and contribute to long-term customer growth.
• Identify emerging market opportunities and evolving customer needs to help shape Newcode's product strategy.
  

Drive Adoption & Strategic Enablement

• Serve as the voice of the customer within Newcode by gathering, prioritizing, and communicating customer feedback to Engineering, ensuring customer insights influence product development and future innovation.
  

Requirements
Minimum Requirements

• You have experience practicing at a U.S. law firm.
• You have between 3 and 7 years of legal practice experience.
• You achieved an LSAT score at or above the 70th percentile.
• You bring relevant legal experience from a law firm associate position, judicial clerkship, in-house role, knowledge management function, or legal operations team.
• You have hands-on experience with AI, such as training users, leading an internal rollout, or building an AI-powered tool.
  

Interview Process:
Stage 1: Screening Call
Stage 2: First One-on-One Interview with Newcode Legal Engineer
Stage 3: Second One-on-One Interview onsite in Chicago
Stage 4: Interview with C-level.
Reference check and hiring decision is made within two weeks of reference checks.
