Job Overview

About AI at Relativity

Every year, the global justice system benefits from the insights of Relativity AI on billions of documents – and we are just getting started on our journey to use AI to improve the outcome of every discovery, investigation, and analysis in Relativity. We are focused on helping our users discover the truth more quickly, organize their data, and act on it with confidence.

At Relativity, we use our AI Principles to guide product development as part of our commitment to developing responsible AI. These principles ensure we build AI with purpose that delivers value for customers, empower customers with clarity and control, keep fairness as a first principle in AI development, champion privacy, place the security of customers’ data at the heart of everything we do, and act with a high standard of accountability.

In the AI organization, we believe in exploration, experimentation, and bringing your curiosity to work every day. We know that you can’t innovate without experimentation — and a little failure happens on the path to invention. We use the latest and greatest to ensure we are the best. We experiment, evaluate, ship, and learn every day.

About the Applied Science Team at Relativity

Relativity is heavily invested in developing new AI products and features for our customers. Our AI organization spans many teams and functions across Relativity Engineering, including our data engineering team, machine learning operations team, LLM engineering specialists, our product-focused feature teams, and our applied science team.

The applied science team operates at the very center of Relativity’s AI development. Our diverse team of specialists has advanced postgraduate training and experience in building and developing models, with collective decades of experience building and managing some of the world’s most impactful models at the largest scales of data and computational complexity.

About the Senior Legal Data Intelligence Lead Role

The Senior Legal Data Intelligence Lead is the applied science team’s fundamental discovery industry subject matter expert. You will report directly to the head of Applied Science at Relativity, applying your skills and knowledge to every applied science project at Relativity. You’ll bring your expertise as a practitioner of litigation and discovery to help us build by leading the evaluation of our key generative AI capabilities. You will be our primary interface to other litigators, both helping us explain how our technology operates to them and taking their feedback and providing it back to our applied science team, conveying the nuances of both the technology and the needs of the litigator persona as you do so.

Job Description and Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Work externally with our clients and our industry to explain how our generative AI systems work and to receive their feedback on the performance of our generative AI in analyzing and classifying documents, identifying information that needs to be protected, and extracting and curating knowledge.
  • Work internally with our applied scientists, product managers, designers, engineers, and our customer enablement teams to provide internal feedback and suggestions on the enablement, performance, usability, and functionality of our generative AI solutions.
  • Contribute to Relativity applied science strategy by leveraging your subject matter expertise to design, build, and improve our tests, benchmarks, and other evaluation systems for our generative AI solutions.

Qualifications

  • A Juris Doctorate and 5 years of experience practicing in the legal profession as a litigator or equivalent experience working for a legal service provider or legal technology vendor.
  • Hands-on experience with Relativity in a diverse set of workflows, both traditional EDRM and broader Legal Data Intelligence use cases.
  • Strong and clear communicator, able to synthesize and communicate complex technical concepts and results to internal and external audiences.
  • Deep interest in the use of generative AI to responsibly advance the practice of law and access to justice.
  • Understanding of TAR, statistical validation, and other advanced techniques for document review and analysis.

Relativity is committed to competitive, fair, and equitable compensation practices.

This position is eligible for total compensation which includes a competitive base salary, an annual performance bonus, and long-term incentives.

The expected salary range for this role is between $154,000 and $232,000.

The final offered salary will be based on several factors, including but not limited to the candidate's experience, skill set, qualifications, and internal pay equity. Hiring at the top end of the range would be unusual to allow for future salary growth.
