We are hiring a Senior Legal Counsel to join our team.

Must reside in California - remote position.

What You Will Be Doing:

Under administrative supervision, the Senior Legal Counsel is responsible for providing strategic and operational legal advice to the HPSJ Executive Team and their designees. Responsible for ensuring statutory and regulatory compliance, supporting new business development, employment, and other activities, while managing risk and maintaining legal compliance. Work involves varied, complex tasks requiring discretion and independent judgment.

Essential Functions:

Facilitates legal activities by providing counsel on legal issues affecting HPSJ.
Advises on regulatory compliance, contracts, risk management, litigation, governance, and transactions to ensure legal adherence.
Coordinates with outside counsel for litigation and regulatory matters.
Oversees outside counsel management and evaluation.
Develops and defines policies and procedures.
Provides guidance on the legal impact of legislation, regulations, and government requirements.
Drafts, reviews, and advises on contracts with healthcare providers and vendors.
Evaluates and addresses enterprise risks.
Researches and interprets laws and regulations, including privacy, security, Medi-Cal/Medicaid, and Medicare.
Handles legal actions related to HPSJ’s public entity status.
Builds relationships with stakeholders, including regulators.
Implements process improvements and maintains documentation.
Manages copyrights and trademarks.

What You Bring:

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies:

Required:

• Prudent legal decision-making abilities.
• Deep knowledge of California and Federal healthcare laws, including Medi-Cal Managed Care and Medicare D-SNP.
• Understanding of applicable laws and regulations governing HPSJ.
• Ability to anticipate, respond to legal issues, develop strategies, and analyze complex information.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

What You Have:

Education and Experience:

Required:

• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
• At least eight years of healthcare legal experience, including Medi-Cal and/or Medicare managed care.
• Experience working with leadership and outside counsel.
• At least four years of supervisory experience.

Preferred:

• Experience as in-house counsel or for a public agency.
• Experience with regulators and outside counsel.

Licenses, Certifications:

Current California State Bar license.
