Overview:
We are working with a leading organisation in the energy sector seeking a highly experienced Legal Counsel to support the full life cycle of complex EPCI projects. This is a unique opportunity to take a key legal role in high-value international developments, working directly with internal teams without reliance on third-party legal providers.
This position requires an autonomous legal professional with deep expertise in English contract law and a solid background in project law, especially within the oil and gas sector.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide legal support across all stages of EPCI project execution, from tendering through to contract close-out.
Draft, review, and negotiate high-value commercial agreements, including subcontracts, project-specific contracts, and framework arrangements.
Advise project management, procurement, engineering, and leadership teams on contract compliance and legal obligations.
Identify and mitigate legal and contractual risks during project execution.
Offer legal insight and guidance on claims management and dispute resolution.
Support internal legal training, template development, and compliance with international standards.
Stay up to date with industry regulations, international laws, and emerging legal risks.
Essential Requirements:
Qualified lawyer with a law degree from a recognised common-law jurisdiction.
Minimum 15 years of post-qualification legal experience, with at least 10 years in the oil and gas sector, particularly on EPCI projects.
Must be directly handling legal matters; not through a third-party or external legal provider.
In-depth knowledge of English contract law and project-based legal frameworks.
Experience in managing large-scale, international contracts and stakeholders.
Excellent drafting, negotiation, and advisory skills.
Preferred Competencies:
Multilingual candidates are a plus (especially Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin, Japanese, Portuguese).
Strong commercial awareness and strategic thinking.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-complexity environment.
