Job summary

Janus Henderson Group is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel in Colorado to provide strategic legal guidance across the firm, balancing commercial priorities with risk management. You will support business partners, oversee global investment and trading legal matters, and collaborate with external counsel where appropriate.

The role requires extensive in-house or similar experience, strong analytical skills, and the ability to lead junior lawyers.

Qualifications

• In-house legal experience in financial services strongly preferred.
• 6+ years in house or law firm background desired.
• Advanced analytical and research abilities required.
• Excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
• Experience leading or mentoring junior lawyers or paralegals.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal advice to the firm and help manage legal risk.
• Serve as day-to-day legal support for business units across multiple areas.
• Lead legal workstreams on global investment and trading matters, including negotiating related docs.
• Support investment and class action matters and coordinate with boards and business partners.
• Assist with regulatory or business change projects and product initiatives.
• Guide and direct junior team members in their work.
• Carry out additional duties as assigned.

Your opportunity

As Senior Legal Counsel, you will be responsible for providing legal advice and broader counsel on complex, strategic, firm-wide issues. You will have a deep commercial understanding and an ability to balance commercial interest against legal risk.

You will:

• Provide legal advice to the firm and help to ensure that the firm operates in accordance within an acceptable level of legal risk.
• Act as day-to-day legal support for business partners across a broad range of business areas, in conjunction with external counsel where relevant and with escalation to others in the team as required.
• Leading legal workstreams with respect to global Investment and trading legal matters, supporting the investment and trading teams, including advising on and negotiating investment related documentation.
• Legal support for investment and class action matters, presented to boards, such as mutual funds, ETFs, and hedge funds, and coordinating board discussion with business partners.
• Assist with regulatory change projects, business change projects and investment product and distribution initiatives;
• Provide guidance and direction with respect to the work activities of more junior lawyers or paralegals.
• Carry out additional duties as assigned.

Must have skills

• Extensive experience in a similar role or in financial services preferably gained in-house
• Minimum of 6 years in house or law firm is preferable
• Advanced analytical and research skills
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
• Experience managing and developing a team

Compensation information

The base salary range for this position is $180,000 - $200,000 This range is estimated for this role. Actual pay may be different. This position will be open through August 31, 2026.
