We are seeking an experienced Senior Legal Assistant to provide full litigation support to two Tort Attorneys. The ideal candidate will join a high-volume, paperless environment that is both dynamic and rewarding. The selected Senior Legal Assistant will provide support to two Tort Attorneys who handle first and third-party auto and general liability cases in Michigan and Ohio. Must have experience supporting Michigan cases, we are willing to train the selected individual in supporting an Ohio attorney.

Additional key responsibilities include:

  • Timely preparing correspondence, briefs, motions, pleadings, discovery, deposition and IME notices; processing e-filings; and ordering medical records.
  • Accurately maintaining attorney calendars based on court notifications.
  • Extensive scheduling of depositions, mediations, facilitations and IMEs, as well as calendaring these activities.
  • Reviewing mail, preparing correspondence, processing invoices for payment, maintaining data in company systems, and maintaining and operating within our electronic legal files.
  • Managing and manipulating electronic documents in Word, TIF, PDF and JPG formats.
  • Processing mail, duplicating CDs, compiling PDFs, and converting files.
  • Assisting in trial preparation.
  • Exhibiting professionalism during each interaction with clients, opposing counsel, home office staff, attorneys, teammates, claim partners and court employees.
  • Assisting in overall support of the office as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience as an assistant in a law office or corporate law department.
  • Must have experience supporting Michigan cases.
  • Insurance defense background required.
  • Personal injury experience required.
  • Trial support experience is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and use time management skills and independent judgment in a high-volume environment.
  • Ability to work on strict and short deadlines.
  • Comfortable setting priorities and managing shifting priorities.
  • Demonstrated efficiency, productivity, and attention to detail.
  • Proven team player.
  • Ability to work with confidential/sensitive information in a secure fashion.
  • Maturity and professionalism in all written and verbal communications with clients and peers.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite: Outlook, Word, and Excel.

This is a 100% remote work from home opportunity. Successful applicants must have the ability to travel/work within our Troy office once per year as needed.

Internet Connectivity Requirement/Remote Positions: For 100% remote positions, we require that you have high speed broadband cable internet service with minimum upload/download speeds of 3Mbps/30Mbps, and your Internet provider supplied device is to be hardwired to the Hartford issued router and/or computer.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. The annualized base pay range for this role is: $57,200 - $85,800
