Job summary

SNAME's Department of Mechanical Engineering seeks a Senior Lecturer to support undergraduate and graduate instruction in mechanical and ocean engineering. The role leads lectures, recitations, and laboratories, advancing hands-on learning and effective use of digital teaching tools.

The candidate will develop propulsion materials, guide tradeoffs, and supervise graduate teaching assistants while mentoring students and advising research in the 2N Naval Construction and Engineering Program.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated teaching experience and ability to engage a diverse student body.
  • Strong technical expertise and communication skills; experience with curricula development.

Responsibilities

  • Lead lectures, recitations, and laboratories across courses.
  • Develop and modernize curricula, design projects, case studies, problem sets, and exams.
  • Hold office hours and mentor students.
  • Support Canvas and Piazza; coordinate grading.
  • Supervise graduate teaching assistants.
  • Mentor students and advise research in the 2N Naval Construction and Engineering Program.
  • Provide summer support for year-long design projects.
  • Develop propulsion materials and guide propulsion-plant tradeoffs; troubleshoot simulation models.
  • Lead finite element analysis laboratories and apply ABS and military standards to designs.
