Job description

Senior Learning Officer (Schools and Early Years)

Hours: 37 hours per week

Contract: Permanent

The South West Heritage Trust is seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Learning Officer to manage the development and delivery of impactful formal learning programmes that connect children and young people with our sites, collections, exhibitions and stories.

Through the Trust’s Learning Service, 15,000 children annually take part in Key Stage 1 and 2 workshops, and schools can access authentic heritage objects for classroom use. We also deliver Early Years programmes, collaborate with secondary schools and higher education institutions and offer apprenticeships and placements for young people entering the workforce.

In this exciting role, you will manage the Formal Learning Team and deliver a range of learning initiatives, including oversight of the Arts Council England/DCMS funded ‘Museums and Schools’ Programme. You will work both onsite and in educational settings, delivering engaging workshops and activities that align with the National Curriculum and best practice in heritage education.

The ideal candidate will be:

An excellent communicator with significant experience in developing and delivering learning programmes in a heritage or cultural setting.

An experienced manager with outstanding interpersonal skills.

Knowledgeable in the National Curriculum, including Early Years.

Passionate about engaging young people with heritage and culture.

Due to the nature of this post, the successful candidate will need an independent means of transport and will be required to undertake a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

The South West Heritage Trust is an independent charity which provides heritage services across Somerset and Devon. We run two Archive and Local Studies services and three museums, including the Museum of Somerset, and look after Somerset’s historic environment, including over 400 acres of historic landscapes.
