Job summary

The State of Arizona, through the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ), seeks a Deputy Assistant Director to drive operational excellence and co-lead the Surface Water Quality Division in Phoenix. You will manage budgets, mentor managers, and engineer data-driven systems to protect Arizona’s water resources.

Reporting directly to the Division Director, this role offers full-time remote work within Arizona and opportunities to influence strategic priorities and regulatory programs

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; 5 years of program or strategic management experience preferred.
• Experience leading division operations, budgets, and Lean/CPI initiatives.
• Proven ability to interact with stakeholders and manage complex regulatory programs.

Responsibilities

• Lead division operations including budget, personnel, staff development, systems, processes, and program direction with Lean continuous improvement.
• Provide high-level strategic planning, program management, and external liaison activities for Surface Water Quality.
• Mentor managers and staff to improve productivity, quality, and leadership while controlling costs.
• Represent the agency at public events, hearings, and intergovernmental meetings to promote objectives.
