Job description

Is God calling you for a change? Do you have a passion for rural ministry? Are you ambitious with a desire for growth? If so, then Senior Pastor at St. Peter's Arenzville might be the calling for you. We are a country church with a big ministry and mission. We pride ourselves in our close-knit congregation where we care for and love one another as family while welcoming others with open arms. We strive to support our surrounding communities and share God's message with those who need it most.
St. Peter’s Arenzville - Who are we?
  • St. Peter’s Lutheran Church is located in Arenzville, IL. We are approximately 8 miles south of Beardstown, 40 miles west of Springfield, 70 miles east of Quincy, and 100 miles north of St. Louis, MO. We are a well-established, rural, multi-generational church with approximately 180 members and average 40-50 in attendance each Sunday.
  • Founded in 1850 by a group of German settlers, St. Peter’s is a close-knit congregation that prides itself on strong faith and community involvement. Our members support their children and grandchildren at the exceptional schools in our area.
  • We strive to serve our community and surrounding areas.
  • Our community is primarily agriculture-driven, with many members working in agriculture-related industries.
  • Arenzville and the surrounding areas boast lush farmland and top-ranked hunting opportunities. There are also several parks offering trails, lakes, and camping. If you enjoy sports, concerts, plays, and shopping, Springfield, Quincy, and St. Louis are within an hour's drive.

Worship

  • St. Peter’s worships together each Sunday morning at 10 am with Sunday school at 9 am prior to the services. We host a traditional service and celebrate Holy Communion on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month.
  • We also host “Good News from St. Peter’s,” a radio service on our local station, WLDS/WEAI.

Ministries and Groups

  • Our men’s group actively serves the community through monetary giving, outreach, and the local food pantry. They also help maintain the church property.
  • Children and youth engage in Sunday School, confirmation, and VBS, while adults participate in Bible studies.
  • The congregation comes together for events to support community needs, such as school supplies and Christmas gifts for the less fortunate.

Staff

  • The pastor is the only full-time employee, supported by part-time staff and numerous volunteers.

Affiliations

  • St. Peter’s was previously affiliated with the ELCA but voted to dissociate and join LCMC in 2022.

St. Peter’s Arenzville - What are we searching for?

  • We are seeking a pastor to help transition into a state of growth, reaching out to local communities and providing a message of faith.
  • We hope this will be achieved through weekly sermons, Bible studies, and community outreach.

Responsibilities and Qualifications

  • Conduct worship services, including Sunday services, funerals, and marriages.
  • Administer sacraments of Holy Baptism and Holy Communion.
  • Visit the sick and homebound, providing Holy Communion as needed.
  • Aid in the spiritual growth of church members and spread God’s love to the community.
  • Lead small group Bible studies and guide youth in building a strong foundation in Christ.
  • We prefer an LCMC certified pastor or one who aligns with traditional Lutheran teachings.
