A Senior Embedded Firmware Engineer provides engineering support for new customer applications, product launches, cost reductions, and manufacturing improvements through collaboration with sales, engineering, quality, manufacturing personnel, suppliers, and customers. This role may also involve leading large-scale engineering projects across multiple applications and locations. At Allient Inc., you will work on embedded electronics controlling brushless DC motors and actuation systems in markets including industrial automation, automotive, and aerospace, including space launch systems. You will research, develop, design, implement, test, and evaluate firmware and software solutions alongside hardware development, resulting in high-value electronics that give our customers a competitive edge.

Responsibilities:

1. Generate, analyze, and apply engineering solutions to new and modified products, including FEA and design documentation.
2. Develop firmware for microcontrollers interfacing with electric drive electronics for motors and actuation systems.
3. Conduct product development activities, including timeline and budget estimations, design documentation, and interpretation of customer specifications.
4. Review and critique designs to ensure best practices and lessons learned are incorporated.
5. Present technical information to aid strategic planning.
6. Recommend resources to enhance product performance and resolve design/manufacturing issues.
7. Plan, develop, and execute test programs; analyze data to verify design specifications.
8. Collaborate with production and engineering teams to solve design and manufacturing problems.
9. Serve as a technology expert, providing innovative direction for the company and customers.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
2. At least 8 years of related experience; knowledge of gear motors, electric motors, and drives is a plus.
3. Strong programming skills in C/C++, Python, and C#.
4. Experience with motor commutation design and sensor interfaces.
5. Familiarity with embedded systems and communication protocols such as UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, CANopen, EtherCAT, J1939, UDS, EtherNet/IP, and USB.
6. Experience with development tools like uVision, DAvE IDE, Code Composer Studio, Visual Studio, or similar IDEs.
7. Experience with ARM microprocessors, STM, and Infineon microcontrollers is desired.
8. Knowledge of version control and productivity tools like Jira/Jama, Azure, Git, Bitbucket, and Confluence.
9. Knowledge of PCB design tools such as Altium.
10. Experience designing and testing hardware and software for BLDC motors.
11. Strong troubleshooting skills for firmware/software issues.
12. Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.
13. Ability to work independently, prioritize, and manage multiple projects.
