Job description

Senior / Lead Electrical Controls Engineer – EPMS & Power Distribution Systems
Salary: $90,000 to $170,000 base plus bonus
Build, engineer, and lead the next generation of connected power systems

This is an opportunity for a senior-level controls engineer who can go beyond drawings and design documentation. We're looking for an engineer who understands Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS) and Power Distribution Systems (PDS) at a deeper technical level—someone who can evaluate equipment, determine system requirements, develop the architecture, and drive the engineering and execution of complete solutions.

You’ll take a hands‑on leadership role in developing and delivering connected power monitoring and control systems, working directly with electrical equipment, controls platforms, engineering teams, customers, and manufacturing. You’ll be expected to make technical decisions, troubleshoot complex applications, identify what equipment and functionality are required, and guide less-experienced engineers through design and implementation.

This is a senior technical leadership position with responsibility for both engineering execution and the commercial success of projects ranging from $50K to $20M.

If you’re an experienced controls engineer with EPMS, power distribution, and industrial controls expertise who wants to influence technical direction and lead engineering teams, we want to talk to you.

What You’ll Work On

Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS) and Power Distribution Systems (PDS)

Monitoring, control, and integration of electrical power distribution equipment

PLC-based control, HMI, and SCADA solutions for industrial and critical power applications

Connected services platforms and system architecture

Electrical equipment evaluation, selection, and system integration

Advanced industrial networking and communications interfaces

IPC-based control environments and applications

Technical and commercial project strategies ranging from $50K to $20M

Multi-site customer programs spanning engineering, production, and field service

Subcontractor and third-party supplier integration

Technologies may include PLC-based controls / HMI / SCADA (Inductive Automation, Rockwell, Wonderware, Schneider), advanced networks (EtherNet/IP, Modbus RTU/TCP, PROFINET, IO-Link), and IPC-based environments using CODESYS.

What You’ll Be Doing

Provide hands‑on technical leadership for EPMS and PDS applications, going beyond CAD design to evaluate equipment, determine system requirements, and develop complete technical solutions.

Review electrical power distribution equipment and monitoring requirements to establish appropriate system architecture, controls, communications, and integration strategies.

Drive technical decisions involving EPMS equipment, controls platforms, system functionality, and third-party interfaces.

Lead engineering execution from initial concept and platform selection through detailed design, equipment integration, installation support, testing, and commissioning.

Review and guide electrical controls designs, drawings, specifications, and technical deliverables.

Serve as a technical resource and mentor to junior engineers, providing direction, reviewing work, and helping drive projects through completion.

Own customer, program, and project delivery for connected services applications ranging from $50K to $20M.

Act as a primary technical customer interface, establishing technical, schedule, and cost baselines.

Lead or support financial negotiations involving proposals, estimates, quotations, change orders, and change directives.

Coordinate internal engineering, technical field personnel, and third-party suppliers supporting Electrical Power Delivery, Equipment, and Modular systems.

Collaborate with Sales, Solution Development, Engineering, Manufacturing / Production, and Service to deliver technically sound, profitable solutions.

Support hiring, development, and retention of a strong team of Controls Engineers and Specialists.

Provide technical and indirect leadership for project and initiative teams of approximately 5–10 people.

Identify execution risks, manage budgets and purchasing decisions, and communicate project progress to customers and internal leadership.

What We’re Looking For

BSEE, BSME, or equivalent practical experience in electrical engineering, industrial controls, or related disciplines.

3+ years of relevant engineering experience, preferably in power distribution, critical power, electrical controls, or industrial automation.

Strong experience with Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS) and/or Power Distribution Systems (PDS).

Ability to evaluate electrical power equipment, determine monitoring and control requirements, develop system architecture, and drive technical execution.

Experience integrating electrical distribution equipment with monitoring, controls, communications, and supervisory systems.

Strong understanding of PLC-based control / HMI / SCADA systems, including platforms such as Inductive Automation, Rockwell, Wonderware, and Schneider.

Knowledge of industrial networking protocols including EtherNet/IP, Modbus RTU/TCP, PROFINET, and IO-Link.

Hands‑on experience with IPC-based control environments using CODESYS.

Ability to work beyond the CAD/design function and take ownership of equipment evaluation, technical problem-solving, system integration, and project execution.

Experience providing technical direction, mentoring engineers, and reviewing engineering deliverables.

Strong project management, risk assessment, budget management, and customer‑facing skills.

Ability to communicate effectively with customers, engineering teams, manufacturing, suppliers, and executive stakeholders.

The Experience That Will Really Get Our Attention

You’re a senior controls engineer who understands the electrical power distribution environment—not just the drawings that represent it.

You know how to get into the details of EPMS and PDS equipment, determine what is needed for a particular application, evaluate the appropriate monitoring and control architecture, and drive the solution through engineering, integration, and commissioning.

You can work directly with electrical equipment and controls systems, make independent technical decisions, and provide direction to other engineers. You’re comfortable reviewing a design, identifying what’s missing, determining the equipment and functionality required, and taking ownership of getting it executed.

Experience with mission‑critical power, data centers, switchgear, switchboards, power monitoring, PLCs, HMI, SCADA, and electrical equipment integration will be particularly valuable.

This is a role for someone who can be both the technical problem‑solver and the engineering leader.

Why This Opportunity?

This is not a traditional controls design position. You’ll have the opportunity to help build and scale a connected services business centered on Electrical Power Monitoring and critical power systems.

You’ll have meaningful technical ownership over equipment selection, system architecture, engineering execution, customer relationships, and project financial performance. You’ll also have the opportunity to develop and mentor a team of engineers while remaining closely involved in the technical work.

Travel 30%

Comfortable working in an office environment with frequent visits to the production floor and manufacturing plant.

Ability to move around a plant environment, including walking, standing, climbing stairs, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
