Descrição da oferta de emprego

Lead Controls Design Engineer – Mission-Critical Systems & EPMS
Lead the Design. Architect the System. Own the Delivery.

You know the difference between producing drawings and engineering a complete controls system. We're looking for a Lead Controls Design Engineer to take ownership of controls architecture, electrical design packages, and technical delivery for industrial automation and mission-critical infrastructure projects.

This is a hands‑on leadership role for an engineer who can independently develop detailed designs, establish engineering standards, direct CAD resources, and ensure complete drawing packages are accurate, coordinated, and ready for fabrication and installation.

You’ll help architect PLC/SCADA and Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS) supporting data centers, critical power infrastructure, and complex industrial applications.

If you're the engineer others rely on to own the entire engineering package from concept through commissioning and final as‑builts, this is an opportunity to step into a technical leadership position.

What You’ll Work On

You’ll lead the design of complex industrial automation and power monitoring systems, including:

  • Industrial automation control system architectures for mission‑critical programs
  • Electrical and controls schematics, layouts, and power distribution designs
  • PLC, SCADA, HMI, and distributed I/O hardware and network architectures
  • Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS) for data centers and critical facilities
  • Industrial Ethernet networks, communication topologies, and equipment interfaces
  • Control panel designs, field wiring details, and equipment interface drawings
  • Standardized, reusable drawing templates and engineering documentation

You’ll work extensively with AutoCAD and automation platforms from Allen‑Bradley, Schneider Electric, and Siemens.

Your mission: translate complex customer requirements into complete, accurate, buildable, and repeatable engineering packages.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead controls design activities from initial concept and customer requirements through fabrication, installation, commissioning, and final documentation.
  • Personally develop detailed electrical and controls drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Design complete industrial automation systems, including schematics, panel layouts, power distribution, I/O, terminations, and network diagrams.
  • Engineer PLC and I/O hardware configurations and industrial communication architectures.
  • Develop detailed bills of materials, including component selections, part numbers, quantities, and specifications.
  • Interpret customer specifications, single‑line diagrams, P&IDs, and equipment documentation to produce executable engineering designs.
  • Establish drawing standards, engineering details, design practices, and deliverable expectations.
  • Coordinate CAD resources, assign work, manage priorities, and oversee drawing revisions and schedules.
  • Review engineering packages for technical accuracy, completeness, coordination, and manufacturability.
  • Lead the development of PLC, SCADA, HMI, and network topologies, including redundancy and segmentation.
  • Design EPMS and associated controls and communication architectures.
  • Support integration of UPS systems, ATS equipment, switchgear, protective relays, meters, and intelligent electrical devices.
  • Provide occasional PLC programming, configuration, testing, and troubleshooting support.
  • Ensure designs align with applicable UL, NEC, NFPA, and project‑specific requirements.
  • Provide engineering support during panel fabrication, factory acceptance testing (FAT), installation, and commissioning.
  • Resolve design discrepancies, integration issues, and field‑driven changes.
  • Drive standardized engineering solutions across large, multi‑site customer programs.
What We’re Looking For
  • 2+ years of experience in controls engineering, industrial automation, electrical design, or a related discipline, with the technical ability to lead design activities.
  • Strong hands‑on experience developing detailed electrical and controls drawings in AutoCAD.
  • Proven ability to independently design complete industrial automation control systems.
  • Experience coordinating, reviewing, and delivering multi‑contributor engineering packages.
  • Working knowledge of Allen‑Bradley, Schneider Electric, and Siemens automation hardware.
  • Experience with PLC/SCADA architectures, industrial networking, and distributed I/O.
  • Proficiency in control panel design, power distribution, field wiring, equipment interfaces, and BOM development.
  • Knowledge of Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP/IP, and industrial communication networks.
  • Experience supporting panel fabrication, field integration, and commissioning.
  • Strong technical judgment, attention to detail, communication skills, and project ownership.
Experience That Will Stand Out
  • We're particularly interested in engineers who combine detailed design expertise with system‑level thinking and the ability to lead others.
  • Ideal candidates have experience owning complete engineering drawing packages, directing CAD resources, establishing standards, and supporting designs through FAT, commissioning, and final as‑builts.
  • Experience with EPMS in data centers or critical facilities, redundant PLC architectures, and complex industrial networks is especially valuable. You should be comfortable discussing PLC/SCADA architecture and integration, even if programming is not your primary responsibility.
Relevant technologies:

AutoCAD Electrical, Siemens COMOS, Allen‑Bradley, Schneider Electric, Siemens, Rockwell Studio 5000, Schneider EcoStruxure, Siemens TIA Portal, EPMS, PLC/SCADA, HMI, I/O, Ethernet/IP, and Modbus TCP/IP.

Why This Opportunity?

This is more than a drafting position or a programming‑focused role. You’ll serve as technical owner of the controls design package, combining hands‑on engineering with technical leadership and coordination of CAD resources.

You’ll collaborate with controls, electrical, mechanical, software, procurement, manufacturing, and field teams to deliver complete, coordinated designs for complex mission‑critical infrastructure.

Your work will help establish standardized engineering solutions that can be replicated across large, multi‑site programs, giving you meaningful technical influence and the opportunity to shape how projects are engineered and delivered.
