Job description

North American Markets Legal is seeking an experienced structured finance lawyer to provided legal counsel and support to the Residential Mortgage trading and securitization business. Applicants should have experience in securitization and structured finance, residential mortgage securitizations and GSE Agency securities transactions (Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and Ginnie Mae) including Master Securities Forward Transaction Agreements. The Senior Lead Counsel I is a senior level position responsible for providing legal guidance and thought leadership to the business.

Applicants must be team players and collegial. Due to the similarity of issues across GSP businesses, a substantial amount of coordination among the legal team is required on a daily basis.

Responsibilities:

  • Advising the business on relevant legal and market developments and Citi policies;
  • Partnering with business in recommending, developing and executing business plans;
  • Leading transactional negotiations; and
  • Working closely with control function partners and internal review committees.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of relevant industry experience, preferably in financial services
  • Banking or financial industry experience, including laws related to banking regulations
  • Knowledge of international laws, regulations and practices while staying abreast of regulatory and legal environment, internal policies and industry trends that impact the business
  • Experience with complex deals, demonstrated ability to analyze issues and develop legal solutions
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills and ability to build and maintain trusted relationships
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and relationship management skills
  • Proven ability to apply sound judgement while managing assignments in a demanding, fast-paced environment
  • Bar license in good standing to practice law

  • Juris Doctorate or equivalent law degree
