Job summary

American Battery Technology Company (ABTC) seeks an experienced Lead Chemist to support quality control and analytical chemistry laboratory operations. You will develop and validate analytical methods to ensure purity and compliance of recycled battery products, while guiding a team of technicians and maintaining rigorous safety standards.

You will oversee instrumentation (ICP-OES, XRF, TOC), collaborate with R&D and production, and help define testing protocols for commercial materials.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry (analytical or applied preferred).
• 15+ years of hands-on laboratory experience in inorganic chemistry, hydrometallurgy, or battery materials.
• Deep mastery of elemental/compositional analysis techniques (ICP-OES/MS).
• Familiarity with profiling lithium-ion battery recycling streams (Ni, Co, Mn, Li).
• Experience with ISO 9001 or ISO 17025 quality frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Analytical Method Development: Establish, validate, and optimize robust analytical testing methods to characterize recycled battery products and trace impurities.
• Product Quality Assurance: Define quality thresholds with QC Manager and enforce strict testing across incoming streams for compositional accuracy.
• Technical Mentorship & Advisory: Mentor laboratory technicians and junior chemists; train staff and troubleshoot anomalies.
• Instrumentation Sovereignty: Manage operation, calibration, and troubleshooting of ICP-OES, XRF, and TOC instrumentation.
• Process & Engineering Support: Collaborate with engineering and production teams to analyze process streams and diagnose deviations.
• R&D Innovation Support: Design and validate novel analytical methods for next-generation process and product development.
• Documentation & Safety Leadership: Create and maintain SOPs; enforce safety guidelines for hazardous chemicals and battery waste.
