Uses vibe-coding platforms and access to large language models to augment workflows and productivity.

About the Role

Lead design and coordination of complex process equipment layouts for semiconductor and high-tech manufacturing facilities, ensuring constructability, code compliance, safety, and schedule adherence. Serve as the primary technical contact for project stakeholders, mentor junior staff, and drive layout solutions across greenfield and retrofit projects.

Job Description
Role

SSOE is hiring a Senior Layout Designer / Layout Engineer to lead planning, design, and coordination of process equipment layouts for semiconductor fabs and high‑tech manufacturing facilities. The role is the primary technical point of contact for project managers, discipline leads, clients, vendors, and contractors and requires strong technical judgment, ownership of design changes and field conditions, and the ability to guide less‑experienced team members.

AI & Tools

The company provides responsible access to industry large language models and vibe‑coding platforms and encourages integrating AI into workflows to increase productivity and streamline complex tasks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead planning and development of production facility and equipment layouts for greenfield and retrofit projects.
  • Interpret supplier equipment drawings and establish standards for tool CAD blocks (2D/3D) and Revit RFAs derived from supplier drawings.
  • Develop manufacturing process layouts based on client tool quantities and priorities; resolve process flow constraints.
  • Perform and review design calculations, routing evaluations, and technical assessments for utilities, support systems, and equipment interfaces.
  • Prepare and review drawings, models, and documentation for tool connections, equipment clearances, utility routing, and service access.
  • Coordinate with project managers, discipline leads, clients, vendors, and contractors to resolve interface conflicts and installation constraints.
  • Represent the layout discipline in design reviews, client meetings, and coordination workshops; manage revisions and maintain alignment with scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Conduct site walks, verify field conditions, assess utility tie‑ins, and identify clashes or scope gaps.
  • Lead risk identification and mitigation for schedule, sequencing, safety, access, and operational continuity in active production facilities.
  • Manage package turnover, including as‑built information, redlines, closeout comments, and construction support documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with client safety protocols, cleanroom requirements, contamination control, and applicable codes (National Fire Code, National Electrical Code).
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers; review work products and share best practices.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or related engineering discipline, or equivalent layout experience.
  • Approximately 7 to 10+ years of relevant experience supporting semiconductor, high‑tech, cleanroom, tool install, or process equipment installation projects.
  • Deep understanding of layout philosophies (product line, process layout, cellular manufacturing, densepack vs flexible layouts).
  • Strong knowledge of tool hookup design, subfab rack and lateral systems, utility coordination, and facility modification in semiconductor environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical coordination and drawing review with focus on constructability, safety, and code compliance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication for internal teams, clients, vendors, and contractors; client‑facing presentation skills.
  • Familiarity with Automated Material Handling systems.
  • Proficient with AutoCAD; proficiency with Revit (and Revit RFAs) desirable.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Demonstrated problem solving, sound engineering judgment, and ownership of technical issues.
  • Experience mentoring or supervising designers and junior engineers.
Compensation
  • Salary Range: $90,000 - $140,000 per year (dependent on location, education, relevant experience, and certifications). Additional leadership incentives and generous bonus opportunities may be available.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Life insurance
  • 401(k) retirement savings plan with company matching
  • Opportunities for professional development and training, including support for licensure & certifications
