Job summary

SSOE Group seeks a Senior Layout Designer / Layout Engineer to lead complex process equipment layouts for semiconductor fabrication and high tech facilities. You will be the primary technical contact for project managers, discipline leads, clients, vendors, and contractors, driving constructive, code-compliant layout solutions aligned with schedule, safety, and quality goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering or related engineering discipline, or equivalent layout experience.
  • Approximately 7 to 10+ years of relevant experience in semiconductor/high tech layout projects.
  • Strong understanding of layout philosophies and tool hookup design; knowledge of cleanroom environments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead planning of production facilities and equipment layouts to optimize space and resolve design constraints.
  • Coordinate with managers, clients, vendors, and contractors to resolve design requirements and installation constraints.
  • Develop and review drawings, models, and documentation for tool connections and facility interfaces.
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers and review work for constructability and safety.

We are seeking a Senior Layout Designer / Layout Engineer to lead the design and coordination of complex process equipment layouts for semiconductor fabrication and other high tech manufacturing facilities. You will serve as the primary technical point of contact for project managers, discipline leads, clients, vendors, and contractors, driving practical, code compliant, and constructible layout solutions that support schedule, safety, and quality goals. The role requires strong technical judgement, disciplined coordination, ownership of design changes and field conditions, and the ability to guide less experienced team members.

Responsibilities
  • Lead planning of production facilities and equipment layouts, determining the most efficient use of space and resolving process flow design constraints.
  • Interpret supplier equipment drawings and requirements; establish standards for tool CAD blocks (2D and/or 3D) and Revit RFAs developed from supplier drawings.
  • Own development of manufacturing process layouts based on client tool quantities, priorities, and goby information, across both greenfield and retrofit spaces.
  • Perform and review design calculations, routing evaluations, and technical assessments for process utilities, support systems, and equipment interfaces to ensure constructible and compliant installation solutions.
  • Direct preparation and review of drawings, models, and documentation for tool connections, equipment clearances, utility routing, service access, and integration with existing facility systems.
  • Lead coordination with project managers, discipline leads, clients, vendors, and contractors to resolve design requirements, interface conflicts, and installation constraints across multiple project phases.
  • Represent the layout discipline in design reviews, client meetings, and coordination workshops; manage revisions and maintain alignment with project scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Conduct site walks, verify field conditions, assess existing utility tie ins, and identify clashes, interferences, or scope gaps that may impact projects.
  • Lead risk identification and mitigation for schedule, installation sequencing, safety, access, and operational continuity within active production facilities.
  • Manage package turnover efforts, including as built information, redlines, closeout comments, and construction support documentation for handoff to downstream teams and stakeholders.
  • Ensure all work aligns with client safety protocols, cleanroom requirements, and facility standards, with attention to contamination control, access limitations, and operational sensitivity.
  • Apply and advise on National Fire Code and National Electrical Code layout restrictions and requirements.
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers by reviewing work products, sharing best practices, and supporting technical development within the team.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering or related engineering discipline, or equivalent layout experience.
  • Approximately 7 to 10+ years of relevant experience supporting semiconductor, high tech, cleanroom, tool install, or process equipment installation projects.
  • Deep understanding of layout philosophies: product line, process layout, cellular manufacturing, densepack vs flexible layouts.
  • Strong understanding of tool hookup design, subfab rack and lateral systems, utility coordination, and facility modification in semiconductor fabrication environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical coordination and drawing review with attention to constructability, safety, and code compliance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with internal teams, clients, vendors, and contractors, including client facing presentation of design decisions.
  • Familiarity with Automated Material Handling systems.
  • Proficient with AutoCAD; proficiency with Revit is desirable. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, review cycles, and deadlines in a fast paced project environment.
  • Demonstrated problem solving ability, sound engineering judgment, and ownership of technical issues through resolution.Experience mentoring or supervising designers and junior engineers.
  • Salary Range: $90,000 - $140,000/year depending on location, education, depth of relevant experience, and any specialized licensure/certifications. Opportunity for ample rewards, leadership incentive components, and generous bonus opportunities.
