Job Summary
SALARY: $17.09 - $21.36 per hour. Under general supervision operates specialized equipment for the maintenance of park sites, performs landscape management tasks and applies prescribed amounts of fertilizers and chemicals for pest control and healthy plants/turf.
Essential Job Functions
- Operate specialized equipment for the maintenance of park sites including specialized mowing equipment, chemical sprayers, backhoe, front and end loader, and various implements utilized in care of large turf areas as well as maintain and perform minor adjustments to the equipment.
- Perform maintenance type duties to park sites including construction and repair of buildings, shelters, playgrounds, concrete/asphalt, retaining walls, landscape improvements, and drainage systems.
- Perform landscape management tasks such as mowing and trimming of turf grass areas, installation and care of plant materials including flowers, trees, and ground cover.
- Apply prescribed amounts of fertilizers and chemicals for pest control and healthy plants/turf as well as maintain accurate application records.
Other Job Functions
- Coordinate activities of seasonal employees and other small groups in the care and maintenance of facilities during special projects.
- Install irrigation systems and perform preventative maintenance to irrigation system and controllers.
- Monitor daily progress of landscaped areas by inspecting plants and turf for insects, diseases, weeds, desiccation, etc., and recognize any problems that may be detrimental to the health of plant/turf, playing conditions and facility safety.
- Prepare and maintain records such as cost analysis for site improvement projects, project progress reports, work performed, and equipment utilized, fuel usage, etc.
Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge of principles, procedures, tools and equipment used in carpentry, plumbing, mechanical and electrical work.
- Skill in determining irrigation problems, maintaining irrigation systems, repairing and installing irrigation systems.
- Skill in the maintenance of flowering annuals, shrubs, trees, roses, etc.
- Ability to read chemical labels and mixing directions of insecticides, herbicides and other pesticides rates/types.
- A High School Diploma or GED, plus one to two years of experience in lawn care, maintenance, construction or horticulture.
- Possession of a valid Texas Operator's License, Class C.
