Job summary

Providence is seeking a Sr Lab Assistant at St. Joseph Hospital Of Orange to ensure accurate and timely drawing, receipt, centrifugation, and delivery of laboratory specimens.

Responsibilities include specimen collection, receiving, accessioning, processing in Microbiology, and basic instrument maintenance. Minimum qualifications require California CPT I or CPT II license and 1 year of relevant experience in phlebotomy or laboratory support; two years in blood collection and specimen processing

Qualifications

• 1 year experience as a Phlebotomist or Lab Assistant performing blood specimen collections, specimen processing, centrifuging and handling send out specimens to other laboratories, or experience in working in a laboratory division.
• Phlebotomy licenses required upon hire (CPT I or CPT II).
• Experience in blood specimen collection and processing preferred (2 years noted in some cases).

Responsibilities

• Draw and deliver laboratory specimens to appropriate departments and reference labs.
• Receive, accession, plate and set up processing tasks in laboratory divisions (Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology).
• Perform basic instrument maintenance and load specimens on instruments.
• Perform phlebotomy duties as required by the role and ensure timely processing.

Under the direction and supervision of the Division Supervisor/Manager, the Sr Lab Assistant ensures accurate and timely drawing, receipt, centrifugation, and delivery of laboratory specimens to appropriate departments and reference labs. Staff duties may include specimen collection (Phlebotomy), receiving, accessioning, plating and set up (Processing, Microbiology), and loading specimens on instruments and basic instrument maintenance (Chemistry, Hematology).

Required Qualifications:

• Upon hire: California Certified Phlebotomy Technician I License or
• Upon hire: California Certified Phlebotomy Technician II License
