Job summary

Providence is seeking a Sr Lab Assistant at St. Joseph Hospital-Orange in Orange, CA. Under supervision, you will ensure accurate drawing, receipt, centrifugation, and delivery of lab specimens, with duties including phlebotomy, specimen processing, and instrument loading.

This role requires California Phlebotomy Technician I or II license and 1 year experience in phlebotomy or lab support. Preferred: 2 years in blood collection and processing.

Qualifications

• 1 year of phlebotomy or lab assistant experience with blood collection, processing, centrifuging, and handling send-out specimens.

Responsibilities

• Draw and receive specimens, centrifuge, and deliver to appropriate departments and reference labs.
• Perform specimen processing, accessioning, plating and setup, and load specimens on instruments.
• Perform basic instrument maintenance as needed in Chemistry, Hematology, and Pathology.

Under the direction and supervision of the Division Supervisor/Manager, the Sr Lab Assistant ensures accurate and timely drawing, receipt, centrifugation, and delivery of laboratory specimens to appropriate departments and reference labs. Staff duties may include specimen collection (Phlebotomy), receiving, accessioning, plating and set up (Processing, Microbiology, Pathology), and loading specimens on instruments and basic instrument maintenance (Chemistry, Hematology, Pathology).

Required Qualifications:

• Upon hire: California Certified Phlebotomy Technician I License or
• Upon hire: California Certified Phlebotomy Technician II License
• 1 year experience as a Phlebotomist or Lab Assistant performing blood specimen collections, specimen processing, centrifuging and handling send out specimens to other laboratories, or experience in working in a laboratory division

Preferred Qualifications:

• 2 years experience in blood specimen collections
• 2 years experience performing specimen processing, centrifuging and handling send out specimens to other laboratories, or working in a laboratory division
