Job summary

KAISER, Laboratory Assistant Senior in Honolulu, Hawaii, performs clinical laboratory procedures and test using manual and automated equipment. Maintains required records and data; assists technologists.

Adheres to laws, regulations, and policies; preserves confidentiality and integrity. Essential responsibilities include specimen collection, centrifugation, specimen processing, culture inoculation, data entry, transport between locations, and performing various licensed tests.

Qualifications

• Six (6) months experience in clinical laboratory setting with some phlebotomy experience.
• High School Diploma.
• Heartsaver CPR AED within 6 months of hire from American Heart Association.
• Demonstrated skills in specimen processing.
• Reading, writing, speaking, understanding English.
• Training/giving and receiving instructions.
• Mathematical ability, attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Obtains laboratory specimens such as blood, urine and sputum directly from patient.
• Using centrifuge, separates plasma or serum from whole blood; labels, distributes and stores samples.
• Maintains and operates equipment such as centrifuges; keeps quality control charts.
• Inoculates bacteriological specimens on culture media; prepares smears for staining.
• Performs data input via computer; keeps detailed records of tests; reports results.
• Transports items between lab, clinic and hospital locations; maintains packing/shipping training.
• Performs tests in serology, hematology, chemistry, microbiology, histology, cytology; ensures tests are certified.
• Performs Bleeding Time Test under direct supervision.
• Prepares solutions, reagents, and stains; cleans and sterilizes equipment; maintains stock.
• Keeps work area neat and clean.
• Demonstrates service excellence and patient focus.
• Demonstrates knowledge to provide care/service appropriate to age groups and culturally sensitive care.
• Adheres to responsibility principles and regulations; reports non-compliance.
• Cooperates with staff; acts as team player and role model.
