Job summary

Blackburn Consulting is seeking a full-time Senior Technician for the West Sacramento Construction Materials Testing Laboratory. The role involves managing day-to-day lab testing operations, coordinating with two lab managers, and supervising technicians to deliver accurate test results for soils, aggregates, concrete, and hot mix asphalt.

Ideal candidates have at least five years of lab testing experience in accordance with ASTM/AASHTO/Caltrans, with strong leadership and data-entry skills.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Minimum of five years of relevant laboratory testing experience.
• Valid driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle.
• Experience with standard computer operations (Windows).
• Certification by ACI, Caltrans, or NICET encouraged; Caltrans through JPCP desired.

Responsibilities

• Complete laboratory test schedules within deadlines and in accordance with testing methods.
• Coordinate with Laboratory Managers for overall laboratory management including equipment maintenance, certification renewals, verifications, calibrations, space and sample management, and cleaning.
• Communicate test selection, interpretation, results, and schedules with Blackburn managers and field technicians.
• Schedule lab tests.
• Supervise lab technicians.
• Provide training to new laboratory staff.
• Enter data into LIMS, generate reports, circulate results, and provide final copies to the project manager.

Position Summary:

Blackburn Consulting (Blackburn) is seeking a full-time Senior Technician for our Construction Materials Testing Laboratory. The Senior Technician will manage day-to-day lab testing operations of Blackburn’s West Sacramento Construction Materials Testing Laboratory. The Senior Technician will be supervised by Blackburn’s Construction Services Laboratory Manager. This candidate shall have at least five years of experience performing construction materials laboratory tests in accordance with ASTM, AASHTO and Caltrans test methods, and at least three years of experience managing supervising laboratory technicians, entering data, and generating test result reports for soil, aggregates, concrete and hot mix asphalt., and running the day-to-day operations of a materials testing laboratory. This position may require some limited travel (<15%) to project sites or other testing laboratories to pick up and deliver samples.

Position Duties:

• Complete laboratory test schedules within deadlines and in accordance with appropriate testing methods.
• Work in coordination with the Construction Services Laboratory Manager and Geotechnical Laboratory Manager with overall laboratory management including equipment maintenance, certification renewals, equipment verifications and calibrations, space and sample management, and laboratory organization/cleaning.
• Communicate with Blackburn managers and field technicians to provide input on proper laboratory test selection, test interpretation, test results, and test schedules.
• Schedule lab tests.
• Supervise lab technicians.
• Provide training to new laboratory staff.
• Enter laboratory test data into the lab information management system, generate test reports, circulate test results for review and provide final copies to the Blackburn manager in charge of the project.
