Job summary

Virginia Department of Corrections seeks a Laboratory Technician Senior at River North Correctional Center to perform lab tests such as blood counts, chemistry, urinalysis, and related procedures, while maintaining equipment and logs in the Medical Department.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Phlebotomy skills including venipuncture.
  • Knowledge of microbiology and laboratory science.
  • Ability to operate and maintain various point-of-care equipment.
  • Experience with record keeping principles and procedures.
  • Ability to operate standard laboratory equipment.
  • Proficient with computers, internet, and office software.
  • Ability to prioritize and work independently to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Performs laboratory tests such as blood counts, chemistry analyses, urinalysis, and related procedures.
  • Maintains documentation and logs; updates charts; schedules appointments.
  • Provides orientation to medical staff and inmates.
  • Assists in the Medical Unit and supports other duties as needed.
  • Ensures lab supplies are adequate and properly stored.
