Job summary

EPAM is seeking a senior software engineer to lead the architecture and development of Kotlin-based backend services. You will design distributed systems, implement service-contract frameworks with gRPC, Protobuf, and REST, and oversee data modeling across DynamoDB and PostgreSQL.

You will drive CI/CD practices, IaC, mentor engineers, and collaborate on AI features using LLM/RAG pipelines and vector services, ensuring scalable, reliable cloud deployments.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software engineering experience with 2+ years in leadership.
• Proficiency in Kotlin.
• Strong experience with AWS (EKS, Docker, Kubernetes).
• Experience with CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
• Strong experience with gRPC, Protobuf, and HTTP/REST.
• Hands-on with DynamoDB and PostgreSQL data modeling.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems and event-driven processing.
• LLM/AI engineering fundamentals (prompt design, RAG pipelines, agentic patterns).
• Experience with Spring AI or similar LLM orchestration frameworks.
• Experience with AWS Bedrock AgentCore or similar RAG/vector services.
• English proficiency at B2+ level or above.

Responsibilities

• Lead the architecture and development of backend services using Kotlin.
• Design and maintain distributed systems, focusing on caching strategies, queues, and event-driven processing.
• Drive the implementation of service-contract frameworks using gRPC, Protobuf, and REST.
• Oversee data modeling and integration across DynamoDB and PostgreSQL.
• Establish best practices for CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code.
• Mentor engineers and provide technical direction.
• Collaborate on integrating LLM/AI engineering solutions, including RAG pipelines and agentic patterns.
• Evaluate and adopt orchestration frameworks and managed RAG/vector services for AI-driven features.
• Ensure scalability, reliability, and maintainability across cloud-based deployments.
