KellyMitchell is seeking a Senior Full Stack Software Engineer to join its merchandising technology team. This contract role focuses on supporting legacy financial systems while building modern, distributed applications, with a backend emphasis and opportunities for frontend contribution.

The ideal candidate will have strong JVM-based experience, a test-driven mindset, and a collaborative approach to delivery, emphasizing code quality and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software development experience.
• Strong proficiency in a JVM-based programming language, such as Java or Groovy.
• Fluent in test-driven development (TDD) principles and practices.
• Strong willingness to participate in pair programming and collaborative software development.
• Full stack development experience, with a primary focus on backend engineering and the ability to contribute to frontend development.

Responsibilities

• Develop, enhance, and maintain backend applications supporting enterprise merchandising and financial systems.
• Support mission-critical legacy applications while contributing to their modernization and replacement with distributed, scalable solutions.
• Design, develop, test, and maintain high-quality software using JVM-based programming languages such as Java or Groovy.
• Apply test-driven development practices to improve code quality, reliability, and maintainability.
• Collaborate with engineers through pair programming, code reviews, and shared problem-solving.
• Contribute to full stack development, including frontend features and integration with backend services.
• Design and develop service-based applications and APIs using REST, HTTP, JSON, and related technologies.
• Participate in agile engineering practices, technical discussions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Provide technical guidance and demonstrate leadership through collaboration, feedback, and sound engineering decisions.
• Work closely with team members to deliver reliable software solutions while maintaining simplicity and consistency across the codebase.
