Job summary

Texas Juvenile Justice Department seeks a senior Juvenile Correctional Officer to oversee a juvenile residential unit, mentor officers, and ensure safety of youth and staff. The role includes training JCOs, coaching youth, and maintaining compliance with treatment plans.

You will work under limited supervision, with long hours and potential travel; pre-service training may be required and you will interact with youth facing complex trauma and behavioral challenges.

Qualifications

• Minimum high school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework/diploma preferred.
• Knowledge of safety and security procedures and practices.
• Ability to remain calm and regulate behavior during crises.

Responsibilities

• Oversees daily operations of a juvenile residential unit and supervises correctional staff.
• Mentors correctional officers on unit operations and youth management.
• Ensures safety and security of youth and staff; coaches youth in accordance with treatment plans.
• Provides on-the-job training to Juvenile Correctional Officers; maintains records and reports.
• Participates in retention and staff support strategies; responds to grievances and incidents.
