Dallas County is seeking a Lead Juvenile Detention Officer to supervise youths in a 24-hour detention facility and contribute to the development and evaluation of residential programs.

The role includes acting as lead in the absence of the shift supervisor, delivering direct supervision, crisis intervention, and ensuring safety, with duties extending to training staff and handling intake/discharges as needed.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or GED required.
• Valid Texas driver’s license with clean record.
• First Aid/CPR certification or ability to obtain within 90 days.
• Maintain 40 hours of training yearly.
• Must meet TJJD or facility standards and undergo background checks.

Responsabilités

• Supervise youths in a 24-hour detention facility to ensure health, safety and welfare.
• Act as lead officer and assume divisional responsibility when the shift supervisor is absent.
• Provide individual and group counseling to promote personal responsibility.
• Make crisis decisions and conduct crisis interventions; report concerns to supervisor.
• Enforce rules, document behavior, and forward information to relevant staff.
• Train and evaluate staff; maintain time and attendance in the absence of a supervisor.
• Transport youths to and from appointments.
• Serve as back-up for medications, intake/discharges, and other duties; assist as needed.
• Perform room checks, searches, inspections, drills; be physically capable of handling youths.
• Be prepared for overtime or shift changes as required.
