We are building an Engineering Team in Cluj to work alongside our teams in Dublin and worldwide, leveraging architectural & engineering standards, best practices, and processes to guide the scaled development of the platform. We are seeking a hands-on Backend Engineer for Digital Experiences & Application Development based in the EMEA Hub at our Cluj offices.

About the Role

This role will serve as a technical expert for the global team, involved in the development and implementation of an innovative, strategic technology platform. The focus will be on the technical development of applications within this domain.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on technical expertise in building and maintaining RESTful APIs and Java applications.
• Collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams, contributing to project planning and execution.
• Design core software components and enterprise-wide applications.
• Identify and suggest improvements in the development process to enhance productivity and quality.
• Implement cloud-native architecture patterns in a distributed environment.
• Work with teams to identify and develop new and existing product opportunities.
• Stay updated on emerging technologies and share insights to foster continuous learning.
• Ensure adherence to technology standards, architecture, and best practices across the platform.
• Translate business needs into technical solutions in collaboration with stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience delivering scalable, customer-facing digital products globally.
• Proficiency in Core Java (Java 17+), Spring Boot, and microservices architecture.
• Experience in designing and developing RESTful APIs with API documentation (OpenAPI).
• Knowledge of API security (JWT, role-based access control).
• Experience with relational (PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB) databases.
• Understanding of asynchronous processing, code quality, and version control (GIT).
• Experience in writing test cases, static analysis, and vulnerability management.
• Ability to mentor junior developers and conduct code reviews.
• Familiarity with observability tools and security standards (OIDC, OAuth2, Okta) is a plus.
• DevOps skills including CI/CD, automated testing, and release management.

Preferred Attributes

• Curiosity about emerging technologies and industry standards.
• Excellent communication skills for a distributed environment.
• Experience with event-driven, asynchronous, and reactive programming.
• Experience with AWS services (SQS, SNS, Redis, Kafka) and API Gateways like Apigee.
