Job summary

SEON is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, develop, and maintain backend data enrichment pipelines. You will build services that ingest data from diverse sources and expose data via APIs, owning features end to end and guiding architectural decisions.

The role emphasizes strong backend development with Java 17+, Spring, and transitioning a legacy Python system. You will collaborate with product, infra, and engineering teams to improve performance, reliability, and observability.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of hands-on backend development with Java (preferably 17+) and Spring.
• Experience designing RESTful APIs and scalable production backends.
• Solid understanding of multithreaded programming.
• Familiarity with distributed systems, microservices, and performance optimization.
• Experience with SQL/NoSQL databases.
• Experience with containerization (Docker) and CI/CD workflows.
• Experience with networking, proxies, and asynchronous/distributed workflows.
• Strong problem-solving skills and fluent written and spoken English.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will design, develop, and maintain backend software systems and infrastructure for the data collection pipelines in the Data Enrichment domain. You will build services that extract and ingest data from various sources and expose that data to other services and customers through APIs. You will own significant features end to end, contribute to system design and architecture decisions, and help raise the quality of the team’s work through solid engineering practices and constructive code review.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

Development and Technical Contribution

• Design and develop robust, scalable backend components using Java and the Spring framework (Spring Boot, Spring Web, etc.).
• Contribute to the redesign and modernization of a legacy Python-based system.
• Contribute to API design, system architecture, and performance tuning for the team’s services.
• Identify and resolve complex technical challenges, and continuously improve code quality, maintainability, and system performance.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize the performance, availability, and throughput of the team’s services, including automating recovery from failure states.

Collaboration and Delivery

• Work closely with fellow engineers, Product Managers, and infrastructure teams to deliver features and improvements.
• Participate in and, where appropriate, help drive design reviews, sprint planning, and technical discussions.
• Share knowledge and provide clear, constructive feedback through code reviews and pairing, and help onboard and support fellow engineers.
• Communicate effectively across the team and collaborate with other departments when needed.

Delivery and Ownership

• Take ownership of the design, implementation, and delivery of features.
• Provide clear effort estimates, contribute to defining the “definition of done,” and ensure timely, reliable delivery of your work.
• Deliver high-quality code with a strong focus on testing, reliability, and performance.

Monitoring and Support

• Contribute to improving monitoring and observability for both new and existing systems.
• Support production systems by diagnosing and resolving issues quickly.
• Proactively improve system reliability and reduce operational burden through automation and architectural improvements.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:

• 3–5 years of hands-on backend development experience with Java (preferably Java 17+) and the Spring ecosystem (Spring Boot, Spring Web/MVC, etc.).
• Experience designing RESTful APIs and scalable production backend systems.
• Solid understanding of multithreaded application development.
• Familiarity with distributed systems, microservices, and performance optimization.
• Experience with SQL/NoSQL databases.
• Experience with containerization (e.g. Docker) and CI/CD workflows.
• Experience with networking, proxies, and handling asynchronous or distributed workflows.
• Ability to collaborate effectively in an agile development environment, including supporting fellow engineers through code review.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving skills, and fluent written and spoken English.

AMAZING IF YOU ALSO HAVE:

• Working knowledge of Python 3.9+ (or willingness to learn) to interact with and understand parts of the legacy system.
• Experience with web crawling, scraping, or data ingestion pipelines.
• Exposure to monitoring, observability tools, and distributed tracing (e.g. Kibana, Grafana, Prometheus).
• Familiarity with AWS services, particularly:
  • Lambda
  • DynamoDB
  • Auto Scaling Groups
• Familiarity with ElasticSearch, Redis, Kubernetes, ArgoCD, and GitHub Actions.
