Optomi, in partnership with a leading automotive and financial services organization, is seeking a Senior Java Software Engineer to join a highly collaborative engineering team responsible for building and supporting modern enterprise applications.
This opportunity is ideal for an experienced software engineer with approximately 7-10 years of professional development experience and strong hands‑on expertise across Java, Spring Boot, AWS, Terraform, APIs, and distributed systems.
The team operates in a technology‑agnostic engineering environment, so candidates should be curious, adaptable, quality‑focused, and interested in expanding their skills across technologies such as Go and other modern development platforms.
What you'll be doing
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable Java microservices and batch applications using Spring Boot
- Participate in the complete software development lifecycle, including requirements, design, development, testing, deployment, production support, and continuous improvement
- Build and consume secure, reliable, and high‑performing RESTful APIs and enterprise services
- Design and develop event‑driven microservices, including Kafka producers and consumers
- Deploy, support, and operate cloud‑native applications within AWS
- Build and maintain cloud infrastructure using Terraform and Infrastructure as Code practices
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, quality controls, and secure deployment processes
- Implement observability, monitoring, and logging to proactively identify and resolve production issues
- Contribute to Go‑based development when needed and remain open to learning additional languages, frameworks, and platforms
Qualifications / must haves
- Approximately 7-10 years of professional software development experience
- 5+ years of professional Java development experience
- Strong hands‑on experience with Spring Framework and Spring Boot
- Hands‑on experience developing enterprise microservices and distributed applications
- Experience developing and integrating RESTful APIs
- Hands‑on experience using Terraform for Infrastructure as Code
- Experience building event‑driven applications, ideally using Kafka
- Experience with relational databases and SQL
- Strong experience with automated testing and CI/CD practices
- Experience with application monitoring, logging, debugging, observability, and production support
- Strong understanding of modern software engineering and application‑development best practices
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work onsite in Plano, TX 4-5 days per week
Nice to have
- Go / Golang development experience or a genuine interest in learning Go
- Kubernetes or container orchestration experience
- Experience working across multiple programming languages or development platforms
