United Airlines is seeking a Senior Software Developer to design, develop, document, test, and debug cloud-based applications. You’ll lead backend API development with Node.js, Java, and Python, and collaborate with teams to deliver enterprise-grade solutions using AWS and DevOps practices.

The role requires extensive experience across AWS services, CI/CD pipelines, and modern web technologies, with leadership responsibilities and strong communication. Eligible US work authorization is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, MIS or related field.
• 4+ years of experience in design, development, documenting, testing, and debugging software systems in an agile environment.
• 4+ years’ experience implementing AWS technologies (Lambda, Step Functions, CloudWatch, CloudFront, Cognito, Route53, DynamoDB, ECS, EC2, S3, RDS, API Gateway).
• Experience with Cloud Automation Development Tool such as Git, Python/Bash/PowerShell scripting.
• Hands-on backend API development using Node.js, Java and Python.
• 4+ years’ experience in Java 25, Springboot 2.7 & 3, Node.js 9.5 & Angular 15, Python; GitHub Cloud; CI/CD (DevOps); Container Orchestration: Kubernetes.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft .Net Framework, .Net Core, SQL, NoSQL and design patterns.
• Knowledge of APIs, JSON, XML, and OAuth.

• Manages and participates in full development life cycle including requirements analysis and design using Agile methodologies.
• Serve as technical expert on development projects.
• Write technical specifications based on conceptual design and stated business requirements.
• Support, maintain, and document software functionality.
• Identify and evaluate new technologies for implementation.
• Analyze code to find causes of errors and revise programs as needed.
• Manage and participate in software design meetings and analyze user needs to determine technical requirements.
• Collaborate and lead tech teams consisting of employees and vendor contractors in planning and execution, serving as a technology leader.
• Collaborate with end users to prototype, refine, test, and debug programs to meet needs.

Job overview and responsibilities

The Senior Software Developer will be responsible for the development of critical applications, while working with a team of developers. This role will design, develop, document, test and debug new and existing applications. Additionally, this role will build these applications with a focus on delivering cloud-based solutions. The individual will use groundbreaking technologies and enterprise grade integration software daily and will be relied upon to help take the team to the next level from a technological standpoint.

Qualifications

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Management Information Systems or related field
• 4+ years of experience in design, development, documenting, testing, and debugging of new and existing software systems and/or applications for market sale or large-scale proprietary software for internal use in an agile environment
• 4+ years’ experience implementing AWS technologies (Lambda, Step Functions, CloudWatch, CloudFront, Cognito, route53, Dynamo DB, ECS, EC2, S3, RDS, API Gateway). Active MQ, RDS - Aurora Postgres, , Route 53, Secrets Manager, Parameter Store, Cloudwatch, EFS
• Experience with Cloud Automation Development Tool such as Git, Python/Bash/PowerShell Scripting
• Hands‑on development and proficient excellence in backend API development using Node.js Java and Python (nice to have)
• 4+ years’ experience in Java 25, Springboot 2.7 & 3, Node JS 9.5 & Angular 15, Python ; Code Repo: Github Cloud ; CI/CD (DevOps): Harness (1st Gen, Next Gen); Image Repo: Artifactory (Cloud) ; Container Orchestration: Kubernetes
• Strong knowledg of Microsoft .Net Framework, Microsoft .Net Core, SLQ, NoSQL and Design Pattersn
• Knowledge of APIs, JSON, XML, and OAuth
• AI : Claude, Agentic AI or CoPilot in SDLC
• Excellent knowledge of Object-Oriented systems design and Application Development
• Web development, API integrations, Cloud technologies
• Experience in AI domains.
• Solid technical understanding of cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP), APIs, CI/CD, web technologies, and DevOps practices.
• Experience with Agile/Scrum or SAFe frameworks and tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence, Azure DevOps).
• Excellent communication, leadership, and documentation abilities.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
• Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
• Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

The base pay range for this role is $112,480.00 to $146,540.00.

The base salary range/hourly rate listed is dependent on job-related, factors such as experience, education, and skills. This position is also eligible for bonus and/or long-term incentive compensation awards.
