Job summary

UnitedHealth Group is seeking a Lead Java Software Engineer - IAM to design, implement, and secure Identity & Access Management solutions across our platforms. This remote role lets you contribute from anywhere in the U.S.

You will lead architecture discussions, mentor engineers, and collaborate with product teams to translate complex requirements into scalable microservices on AWS, using Java, Spring Boot, and modern CI/CD practices.

Qualifications

• 5+ years backend Java/Spring Boot experience.
• 3+ years OAuth 2.0/OIDC/SAML
• 3+ years AWS microservices (EKS/ALB/ SES/SNS)
• 3+ years Redis
• 3+ years CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins/GitHub Actions)
• 3+ years relational databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and Liquibase/Flyway
• 3+ years Agile/Scrum
• 2+ years JWT/JOSE
• Leadership in design and mentoring engineers

Responsibilities

• Coordinate, supervise, and ensure quality in IAM-related activities.
• Design and maintain IAM technologies ensuring privacy and audit compliance.
• Identify and resolve IAM technical issues.
• Ensure IAM systems meet industry security requirements.
• Contribute to IAM architecture and scalability considerations.
• Lead design and management of IAM systems and processes.
• Mentor engineers and drive best practices in IAM domain.
• Stay updated on IAM technologies and emerging threats.
• Collaborate with third-party vendors to evaluate IAM tools.
