Job summary

JPMorgan Chase & Co. in Chicago seeks a Lead Software Engineer to join an agile team delivering trusted market-leading technology in a secure, scalable way. You will be a core technical contributor across multiple domains and help drive architecture and engineering outcomes.

You will build secure production code, mentor teammates, and lead AI-assisted development practices to improve quality, speed, and resilience while ensuring zero-downtime releases and robust data performance.

Qualifications

• Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience.
• Hands-on practical experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
• Proficiency in back-end technologies (Java and Python) with experience building microservices-based applications; proficiency also includes front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Typescript, React, Angular).
• Demonstrated experience leading effective use of approved AI-assisted software development tools with the ability to set team expectations for validating AI outputs for correctness, performance, and security.
• Strong understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity considerations, secure handling of inputs/outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security expectations.
• Hands-on experience designing and building scalable applications using SQL or NoSQL databases.
• Experience with agentic AI protocols and frameworks such as Lang Chain, Lang Graph
• Experience with agile development methodologies (e.g., Scrum) and an understanding of the software development life cycle.
• Proficient in all aspects of the Software Development Life Cycle
• Advanced understanding of agile methodologies such as CI/CD, Application Resiliency, and Security
• Practical cloud native experience

Responsibilities

• Executes creative software solutions, design, development, and technical troubleshooting with ability to think beyond routine or conventional approaches to build solutions or breakdown technical problems.
• Use domain modeling techniques to build best-in-class business products, structuring software for clarity, testability, and evolution.
• Develops secure and high-quality production code, and reviews and debugs code written by others.
• Drives team adoption of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering practices to improve code quality, delivery speed, and operational outcomes.
• Applies knowledge of tools within the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain to improve automation.
• Identifies opportunities to eliminate or automate remediation of recurring issues to improve operational stability.
• Promptly investigate and resolve issues, ensuring they do not resurface.
• Continuously update technologies and patterns to keep systems current.
• Design and build solutions that avoid single points of failure using scalable architectural patterns.
• Leads evaluation sessions with external vendors, startups, and internal teams to drive outcomes-oriented probing of architectural designs.
