Job summary

Cognizant in Atlanta is seeking a Senior Java Full Stack Engineer for a hybrid role. You will lead end-to-end technical design for complex microservices-based applications using Java Spring Boot, ensure secure integrations, and guide teams on Gitlab workflows and code quality.

You will optimize performance, define testing strategies, and collaborate with product owners to align technical plans with business needs.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in enterprise software engineering to deliver complex solutions.
• Proficiency with Gitlab-based workflows for branching, merging, code review and pipelines.
• Hands-on with Gemini Code Assist or similar tools to improve coding efficiency and reduce defects.
• Knowledge of microservices patterns including service decomposition and interservice communication.

Senior Java Full Stack Engineer - Hybrid

In this role, you will:

• Lead end to end technical design for complex microservices based applications using Java Spring boot and advanced Java to deliver scalable and high performing solutions that support core merchandising and enterprise workflows.
• Oversee implementation of secure and reliable integration patterns between microservices and upstream or downstream systems to ensure consistent data flow and improved operational efficiency across business functions.
• Provide technical guidance to development teams on effective use of Gitlab for source control branching strategies merge workflows and automated code review practices to maintain code quality and traceability.
• Drive continuous improvement of development practices by using Gemini Code Assist to enhance code generation refactoring and validation activities ensuring faster delivery while maintaining robust engineering standards.
• Coordinate with product owners and business stakeholders to translate merchandising and related domain requirements into clear technical designs and implementation plans that align with organizational goals and customer needs.
• Ensure comprehensive unit integration and component level testing strategies are defined and executed for all microservices focusing on reliability fault tolerance and maintainability of deployed solutions.
• Manage performance optimization activities for Java Spring boot and advanced Java services including tuning resource usage improving response times and enhancing scalability for high volume transaction scenarios.
• Collaborate with architecture and infrastructure teams to define deployment patterns configuration standards and observability measures for hybrid environments spanning on site and remote work contexts.
• Monitor production systems and incident trends to identify root causes propose preventive enhancements and implement sustainable fixes that reduce downtime and improve user satisfaction for business critical applications.
• Guide the adoption of secure coding standards and compliance practices within the codebase ensuring that all Gitlab repositories and microservices adhere to organizational and regulatory requirements.
• Support documentation of technical designs workflows and operational procedures in a clear and accessible manner so that cross functional teams can understand solution behavior and maintenance steps.
• Coordinate mentoring and technical coaching for engineers in areas such as microservices architecture Java Spring boot best practices and effective use of Gemini
• Code Assist to build a strong engineering culture.
• Align day to day development and delivery activities with the company purpose of creating reliable digital solutions that improve merchandising decisions and contribute to more efficient and sustainable commerce.

What you need to have to be considered (Required):

• Apply extensive experience of 10+ years in enterprise software engineering to plan and deliver complex solutions using microservices Java Spring boot and advanced Java in large organizations.
• Demonstrate strong proficiency in Gitlab based workflows including branching merging code review and pipeline management to support collaborative development and controlled releases.
• Leverage hands on experience with Gemini Code Assist or similar intelligent development tools to improve coding efficiency enhance consistency and reduce defects across services and components.
• Use deep knowledge of microservices patterns such as service decomposition interservice communication and resilience mechanisms to design modular and maintainable application ecosystems.
• Exhibit solid understanding of advanced Java concepts including concurrency collections memory management and performance tuning to build reliable backend services.
• Draw on familiarity with merchandising or retail domain processes as a desirable skill to design solutions that reflect practical business scenarios such as assortment planning and inventory optimization.
• Embrace hybrid work arrangements by maintaining effective communication coordination and productivity across on site and remote collaboration environments without requiring travel.

Salary and Other Compensation:

The annual salary for this position is between $60K – 117K depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
