Job summary

Wowza Media Systems seeks a senior Java engineer to own core engine features for Wowza Streaming Engine, a large, performance-critical Java media server used by customers worldwide.

You’ll work on streaming, transcoding, and packaging workflows with a focus on throughput, latency, and correctness under load. Deep experience in Java and related ecosystems is essential, with bonus exposure to C/C++ and JNI boundaries.

Qualifications

• 8+ years hands-on development in performance-critical, large-scale systems.
• Experience with concurrency and multithreading (thread pools, locks, concurrent data structures).
• Deep streaming domain experience in transcoding/packaging workflows.
• Understanding of garbage collection tuning and memory management.
• Familiarity with AI coding tools and modern tooling.

Responsibilities

• Designing and building core features for streaming, transcoding, and packaging workflows for testability and scale.
• Owning performance: profiling, heap and thread dump analysis, GC tuning, memory and CPU efficiency.
• Debugging hard customer problems in multithreaded, under-load scenarios and providing robust fixes.
• Working across the full pipeline from ingest to delivery and across teams from conception through deployment.
• Mentoring junior engineers and sharing streaming expertise.
