Zions Bancorporation’s Enterprise Technology and Operations (ETO) team is transforming how we work for a financial institution. We are seeking a senior Java engineer to design, develop and modernize enterprise-scale applications for the NAOP platform at the Zions Technology Center in Midvale, UT.

Hybrid work requires three in-office days weekly. You will lead architectural discussions, develop secure APIs and microservices, and mentor junior engineers while partnering with Product, Architecture,

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software development in Java-based enterprise apps.
• Strong proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, APIs, microservices and modern design patterns.
• Experience with PostgreSQL and Oracle or similar relational databases.
• Linux environments experience and secure software development practices.
• Git, CI/CD pipelines, test automation, and containerization with Docker.
• Kubernetes or other orchestration; cloud familiarity.
• Experience with IAM/SSO auth integrations.
• Ability to drive complex technical solutions with cross-team collaboration.

Responsabilités

Position Summary

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, enhance, and maintain enterprise-scale applications supporting the NAOP platform. Lead technical design discussions and contribute to architectural decisions for new features and platform modernization initiatives.


• Develop secure, scalable, and highly available Java-based applications, APIs, and integrations. Collaborate with Product, Architecture, Infrastructure, and Business stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions.


• Participate in Agile/SAFe ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog refinement, design reviews, and retrospectives. Perform code reviews and promote engineering best practices, coding standards, and secure software development principles.


• Troubleshoot production issues, perform root‑cause analysis, and implement preventative solutions.


• Design, optimize, and maintain Oracle database schemas, queries, stored procedures, and data integrations.


• Support CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation using modern DevOps practices. Develop and maintain SOAP/RESTful APIs and microservices deployed on Kubernetes or containerized platforms.


• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve application performance, reliability, observability, and security.


• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and provide technical guidance across the team. Create and maintain system documentation, technical designs, and operational procedures.


• Participate in application modernization efforts, including Java upgrades and cloud‑native transformation initiatives.

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software development experience with Java‑based enterprise applications.


• Strong proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, SOAP/RESTful APIs, microservices architecture, and modern software design patterns.


• Hands‑on experience with PostgreSQL and Oracle or other relational database platforms.


• Experience developing and supporting applications in Linux environments. Strong understanding of secure software development practices and application security concepts.


• Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, source control management, and automated testing frameworks.


• Experience working with container technologies such as Docker and orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes. Knowledge of cloud computing platforms and cloud‑native application design principles.


• Experience integrating with enterprise services such as IAM, SSO, authentication and authorization frameworks.


• Ability to independently drive complex technical solutions while collaborating effectively across teams. Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and problem‑solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Java 17, Java 21, or newer LTS versions and integration with Orchestration layers.


• Experience with Azure, GCP, or other cloud platforms.


• Experience with Splunk, Dynatrace, Grafana or application monitoring and observability tools.


• Experience within banking, financial services, lending, or digital account opening platforms. Prior experience leading technical initiatives, mentoring developers, or serving as a technical lead.

Education

Masters or Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.

Location

This position has a hybrid work from home schedule with a minimum of three days per week in the office at the new Zions Technology Center in Midvale, UT.
