Job summary

Virginia Department of Transportation seeks a skilled electronics technician for the Traffic Management Center. You will diagnose, repair and maintain ITS equipment, work with contractors, and ensure compliance with safety and operational standards across traffic systems.

You will prepare reports, train staff, manage spare parts, and respond to emergencies, providing timely first and second level support daily. A valid license and field experience are required.

Qualifications

• Experience applying federal and state regulations and standards related to traffic control devices.
• Experience in traffic signal maintenance and operations with various control devices.
• Thorough knowledge of ITS maintenance equipment and operations.

Responsibilities

• Maintain ITS equipment and perform diagnosis, repair, and preventive maintenance.
• Monitor contractor work; test after maintenance or repairs are completed.
• Prepare routine/technical reports and train staff on equipment use.
• Respond to emergencies and off-hours calls for equipment failures.
• Manage spare parts and inventory; track with barcode system.
• Maintain work orders and system software backups for recovery.
