Job summary

KBR is seeking a Principal IT Systems Administrator (Senior Systems Engineer) to lead the design and management of scalable Linux and Kubernetes infrastructure for NASA vMMOC. You will drive lifecycle activities, enforce standards, and ensure high availability through tuning, capacity planning, and robust backup strategies.

The role requires strong scripting, networking knowledge, and experience with virtualization platforms, private clouds, and cloud tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in technology or computer science and 7+ years of industry experience.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Proficient in RHEL/Linux/Unix systems with hands‑on experience.
• Scripting experience (Shell, Perl, Python, or related languages).
• Deep understanding of network protocols and OSI/TCP/IP.
• Experience designing and managing virtual infrastructures (VMware, Nutanix, Hyper‑V).
• Experience with private‑cloud backup and disaster recovery solutions.
• Experience deploying and managing large‑scale infrastructure deployments.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain scalable Linux and Kubernetes infrastructure for NASA vMMOC.
• Lead system lifecycle management: installation, configuration, patching, monitoring, and security hardening.
• Define and enforce technical standards, baselines, and operational guidelines across the team.
• Drive performance tuning, capacity planning, and root‑cause analysis to ensure high availability.
• Develop and maintain backup, redundancy, and disaster‑recovery strategies.
• Oversee security posture and regulatory compliance.
• Prepare and update technical documentation and SOPs.
• Automate deployment and configuration using Ansible, Puppet, or similar.
• Provide incident management, root‑cause analysis, and preventive measures.
