Job summary

VIP (Vermont Information Processing) is seeking an IT Systems Engineer 3 to join our IT Systems Team in Colchester, VT. The role focuses on analyzing, testing, and building advanced automation, security, and scalable solutions for our enterprise infrastructure.

Responsibilities include automating processes with Ansible, PowerShell, and bash; designing and maintaining systems across x64 servers and virtualized environments; and ensuring reliability, security, and compliance while mentoring junior

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive experience in software or systems engineering.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Systems.
• Strong scripting and automation experience.
• Advanced understanding of Windows and Linux servers and networking.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, GCP) and virtualization.
• Familiarity with DevOps, Agile/Waterfall, and change control.
• Industry certifications such as CCNA, MCSE, or CISSP are a plus.
• Excellent analysis, critical thinking, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Automation & Scripting: Achieve significant process automation using tools like Ansible, PowerShell, and bash to increase system efficiency.
• System Design & Implementation: Design, implement and maintain complex systems across servers and virtualized environments.
• Advanced Troubleshooting: Diagnose root causes and drive full-resolution incident handling.
• Security & Compliance: Implement and maintain robust security measures and assist with audits.
• Collaboration & Mentoring: Work with IT Security, Middleware, IBMi, and mentor junior engineers.
• Strategy & Research: Research new tools and lead deployment from beta to rollout.
