Job summary

Seneca Resources seeks a Senior IT Project Manager to lead a high-visibility enterprise technology modernization program for a Fortune 500 client in New York. You will oversee end-to-end delivery of legacy modernization, ensuring alignment with business goals and timelines.

Position Title: Senior IT Project Manager
Position Status: 12+ Month Contract
Pay Rate: $70-$80/hour W2 (based on experience)
Lead a High-Impact Enterprise Modernization Initiative

Our Fortune 500 client is seeking an experienced Senior IT Project Manager to lead a strategic enterprise technology transformation program focused on modernizing and replacing a critical legacy application platform.

This is a highly visible leadership role responsible for driving delivery across application development, infrastructure, cybersecurity, data, operations, compliance, and business teams. The organization is also incorporating AI-assisted software development practices to accelerate delivery and enhance development efficiency.

What You'll Do
  • Lead end-to-end delivery of a large-scale legacy application modernization initiative.
  • Develop and manage project plans, roadmaps, milestones, budgets, schedules, dependencies, risks, and deliverables.
  • Establish accountability across technical and business workstreams to ensure successful execution.
  • Monitor project health, proactively resolve issues, and remove delivery obstacles.
  • Provide transparent reporting and executive-level visibility into project progress, risks, and decisions.
  • Coordinate planning, migration, implementation, and transition activities for legacy system modernization.
  • Partner with architects, developers, infrastructure teams, and business stakeholders to identify dependencies and implementation requirements.
  • Drive readiness for deployment, operational support, and ongoing business continuity.
  • Ensure comprehensive documentation, knowledge transfer, and support handoffs throughout the project lifecycle.
Cross-Functional Leadership
  • Lead collaboration across Operations, IT, Software Development, Data, Cybersecurity, Compliance, Infrastructure, Change Management, and Business teams.
  • Align stakeholders around priorities, objectives, timelines, and delivery commitments.
  • Coordinate external vendors, consultants, system integrators, and technology partners as needed.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, execution, and continuous improvement.
Executive Communication & Stakeholder Management
  • Facilitate steering committees, project reviews, working sessions, and executive briefings.
  • Communicate project status, risks, milestones, and critical decisions to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Escalate issues appropriately and drive timely resolution of project challenges.
  • Build strong relationships with senior leaders, business partners, and technical teams.
AI-Enabled Delivery & Modern Software Practices
  • Support project planning and governance for AI-assisted software development initiatives.
  • Coordinate testing, validation, compliance, and delivery controls associated with AI-enabled development practices.
  • Partner with teams leveraging automation, analytics, and modern engineering practices to improve delivery outcomes.
  • Ensure innovative technologies align with enterprise standards, security requirements, and business objectives.
Implementation Readiness & Change Management
  • Coordinate deployment planning, operational readiness, user training, and adoption activities.
  • Ensure successful production releases and transition to support organizations.
  • Partner with change management teams to drive business readiness and user engagement.
Required Qualifications
  • 10+ years of IT Project Management experience leading complex enterprise technology initiatives.
  • Proven success delivering large-scale application modernization, digital transformation, or enterprise system implementation projects.
  • Strong expertise in project planning, risk management, issue resolution, dependency tracking, and executive reporting.
  • Experience managing cross-functional teams in complex, business-critical environments.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills, including executive-level presentations.
  • Strong organizational, documentation, meeting facilitation, and decision-tracking capabilities.
  • Experience with project management and collaboration tools such as: Microsoft Project, Azure DevOps, Jira, Smartsheet, Microsoft Planner, Teams, SharePoint
  • Experience supporting initiatives involving AI, automation, analytics, or emerging technologies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience leading legacy application modernization, migration, re-platforming, or replacement initiatives.
  • Exposure to legacy technologies such as Ingres, OpenROAD, or similar environments.
  • Experience supporting AI-assisted software development, automation, or modern engineering practices.
  • Background in utilities, energy, critical infrastructure, highly regulated, or high-availability environments.
  • Experience managing third-party vendors, consultants, and system integrators.
  • Experience leading organizational change management, training, adoption, and operational readiness efforts.
  • PMP, PMI-ACP, Scrum Master, SAFe, or comparable project/program management certification.
