Qualifications

Position Title: Enterprise Architect (Infrastructure, Security & Emerging Technologies)

Location: Remote or Hybrid in Birmingham, AL

Position Status: Direct hire or long-term contract

Position Overview

We are seeking a strategic and technically accomplished Enterprise Architect to lead the design, integration, and evolution of enterprise-wide technology solutions. This role provides architectural leadership across infrastructure, applications, security, cloud platforms, data, and emerging technologies, ensuring alignment with business objectives and long-term technology strategy.

As a trusted advisor to executive leadership and IT teams, you will evaluate emerging technologies, develop architecture standards, guide critical technology investments, and provide expertise for complex enterprise initiatives. You will also serve as a senior technical consultant for high-priority operational challenges and mission-critical systems.

Key Responsibilities
Enterprise Architecture & Technology Strategy
  • Develop and maintain enterprise architecture roadmaps aligned with organizational goals and business priorities.
  • Lead the planning, design, integration, and governance of enterprise technology solutions across infrastructure, applications, security, cloud, and data platforms.
  • Establish architectural principles, standards, and best practices to promote scalability, reliability, performance, and security.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and vendor solutions, providing recommendations that deliver measurable business value.
Infrastructure, Cloud & Security Leadership
  • Provide architectural guidance for enterprise infrastructure, including networking, servers, storage, databases, middleware, and platform technologies.
  • Lead architecture reviews and provide recommendations for cloud adoption, modernization, and hybrid environments.
  • Partner with cybersecurity teams to establish and enhance enterprise security strategies, policies, and controls.
  • Ensure technology solutions support business continuity, resiliency, compliance, and risk management objectives.
Solution Design & Technical Consulting
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to executives, business stakeholders, and technology teams on strategic technology initiatives.
  • Design and review enterprise-level solutions that integrate applications, infrastructure, data, and security requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership and Level 3 support for critical systems and high-impact incidents.
  • Lead technical assessments, proof-of-concepts, and architecture decision-making for major initiatives.
  • Evaluate and promote innovative solutions in areas such as:
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Generative AI
  • Cloud Computing
  • Data Analytics and Big Data Platforms
  • Automation and DevOps
  • Microservices and Distributed Systems
  • Guide adoption of AI-enabled business capabilities, including Generative AI, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and emerging enterprise AI platforms.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership, business partners, and cross-functional teams to drive technology strategy and execution.
  • Mentor architects, engineers, and technical teams while fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Support organizational change initiatives through training, knowledge-sharing, and technology adoption programs.
  • Lead or participate in enterprise architecture governance, strategic planning, and technology review committees.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in enterprise architecture, infrastructure architecture, solution architecture, technology consulting, or related disciplines.
  • Demonstrated expertise in multiple technology domains, including:
  • Infrastructure and Data Centers
  • Networking and Telecommunications
  • Cybersecurity and Information Security
  • Application Development
  • Databases and Data Architecture
  • Experience making independent architectural decisions and influencing enterprise technology strategy.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, presentation, and project leadership skills.
  • Experience collaborating effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, including executive leadership.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, architecture initiatives, and large-scale technology projects.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced certifications or recognized expertise in areas such as Enterprise Architecture, Cloud Architecture, Security, Networking, Infrastructure, Application Development, or Data Platforms.
  • Experience in roles such as:
  • Infrastructure Architect
  • Solution Architect
  • Network Architect
  • Systems Architect
  • Experience with cloud platforms including Microsoft Azure, AWS, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Proficiency with Python and modern software development practices.
  • Knowledge of full-stack development, APIs, and modern application architectures.
  • Experience with AI/ML frameworks such as TensorFlow and PyTorch.
  • Experience with Generative AI platforms, including Azure OpenAI, AWS Bedrock, and Google Vertex AI.
  • Understanding of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), AI orchestration, and multi-agent AI systems.
  • Experience with DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), Docker, Kubernetes, and platform engineering practices.
  • Familiarity with data analytics and visualization tools, including Power BI, Tableau, Spark, Dataiku, and enterprise data platforms.
  • Experience with Linux, z/OS, or other enterprise operating systems.
  • Active participation in professional technology organizations, industry forums, or recognized user groups.
