Job summary

Louisiana Division of Administration / Office of Technology Services is seeking a highly skilled IT professional to serve as the primary technical consultant for database administration and GIS-related tasks within the AppDM GIS Cluster, supporting DEQ and other agencies in the Baton Rouge area.

The role requires extensive IT experience and relevant degrees, with substitutions permitted through Civil Service certifications.

Qualifications

• Five years of IT experience; OR six years of full-time work experience in any field plus three years IT experience.
• An associate's degree in information technology plus three years of IT experience; OR a bachelor’s degree plus three years of IT experience; OR a bachelor’s degree with 24 semester hours in IT/CS/engineering/math or business analytics plus two years IT experience; OR a master’s degree plus two years IT experience.
• EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION: Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field.
• Substitutions: Certifications from Civil Service list may substitute for education/experience at hire or promotion.
• Location: on-site in the Greater Baton Rouge area.

Responsibilities

• Serves as the primary technical consultant/expert for database administration and support tasks for DEQ and at times other state agencies.
• This includes installing, maintaining, and modifying databases for highly complex environments; ensures data integrity and applies updates; acts as project management lead for major initiatives.
• Provides problem analysis and specialized technical expertise; mentors lower-level staff; facilitates knowledge transfer and training.
• Identifies needs for database, GIS, application development, and other complex products; reviews software; interfaces with vendors as needed; maintains procedures and change logs.
• Advises management on acquisitions, capacity planning, technology trends; studies technical literature; reports results to supervisors.
• Performs other tasks, special projects, analyses, and plans as directed.
