Job summary

State Street Associates (SSA) seeks a quantitative researcher to join the Investor Behavior Research Team in Cambridge, MA. You will develop behavioral indicators, forecast market risk/return, and integrate datasets to generate differentiated insights.

The role emphasizes client-facing research, academic-style writing, and collaboration across teams. You will contribute to new research concepts, design proprietary indicators, and perform QA/validation while supporting ad hoc engagements with

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field required; graduate degree preferred (finance, economics, math, physics, etc.). CFA/FRM desirable.
  • Experience in sell‑side research desirable but not essential.
  • Exceptional written skills are essential; oral communication ability and public speaking desirable.
  • Strong working knowledge of financial and statistical concepts including modern portfolio theory and asset pricing theory.
  • Knowledge of market mechanics and datasets (MSCI, QAD, Bloomberg, Reuters) strongly preferred.
  • Programming experience with Python, MATLAB, SQL, Oracle PL/SQL; ability to work with large data sets.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and apply proprietary behavioral measures to forecast market risk and return, and evaluate their relationship with traditional investment factors such as value, momentum, and carry.
  • Drive the development of new research concepts and design innovative proprietary indicators that translate behavioral and market hypotheses into actionable investment signals.
  • Perform ongoing quality assurance, validation, and enhancement of existing indicators to ensure accuracy, robustness, and consistency of outputs.
  • Support client engagement activities through ad hoc research projects, presentation of findings, stakeholder meetings, and occasional travel.
