Job description

Waterfront Intelligence | San Francisco Bay Area (Hybrid)

The Work

Every case starts with a question someone doesn't want answered. At Waterfront Intelligence, you'll find the answer anyway.

We're a boutique investigations firm serving law firms and corporations in high-stakes disputes involving fraud, hidden assets, and adversaries who've worked hard to cover their tracks. We're looking for someone who's as energized by building relationships and winning new work as they are by chasing records through obscure databases and getting sources to talk.

This is a role for someone who wants to both investigate and build a business pipeline. We're small by design, so everyone has a stake in growing the firm. If you enjoy building your own book of business but didn't have a platform to do it from, this is that platform.

What You'll Do

+ Network

  • Identify and pursue speaking opportunities, panels, and conferences
  • Build and grow direct relationships with law firm and corporate clients
  • Write articles and thought leadership content that establishes your reputation
  • Convert your network and outreach into signed engagements
  • Investigate people and companies for high-stakes legal disputes and M&A transactions — then write sharp, clear reports about what you found
  • Conduct source interviews and manage surveillance operations
  • Master both desktop research and shoe-leather investigative work

What You Bring

  • Enthusiasm for networking, pitching, and being the face of the firm
  • Bonus: A record of winning new clients or growing a book of business — in investigations, legal services, consulting, or a comparable relationship-driven field
  • Investigative experience with law firms, corporations, or investors — or a strong investigative journalism background
  • Deep fluency with public records research and private investigative databases
  • Strong writing skills — you can turn complex findings into clear, compelling narratives
  • A bachelor's degree minimum; a master's or JD is a bonus

Why Waterfront Intelligence

We're small by design. Our core team is tight, our cases are selective, and we only take work that's a genuine fit. If you build the relationship, you own it. This position earns a salary, origination fees, health and 401k.

This is a hybrid job based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Candidates throughout California will be considered. Full time or part time will be considered.
