Job summary

MaintainX, now part of Autodesk, seeks a Senior Applied Scientist in San Francisco to own the intelligence layer behind our Parts Agent. You will develop optimization and ML models to answer inventory questions like reorder points and stock balancing, shaping modeling approaches with product and design teams.

You will ship iteratively based on real user feedback, contribute to a Python-based service focused on performance, observability, and reliability, and help integrate inventory intelligence

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering or data science experience in optimization, forecasting, or ML systems shipped to real users.
• Strong fluency with at least one optimization paradigm (LP/MILP, stochastic programming, simulation).
• Solid Python service engineering: APIs, async, testing, profiling, observability.
• Academic grounding in quantitative field (OR, industrial eng, stats) at minimum.
• Track record of iterating data-driven systems with real users and shipping improvements.

Responsibilities

• Own and evolve optimization and ML models powering Parts Agent capabilities (reorder point, EOQ, multi-site stock balancing, demand forecasting).
• Design inventory intelligence features (lead time modeling, safety stock, stockout alerts).
• Build and maintain APIs and tools exposing models to GenAI workflows.
• Collaborate with PM and design to translate real-world problems into tractable models.
• Iterate with users and pilot deployments; reflect feedback into models.
• Contribute to surrounding Python service: performance, observability, testing, reliability.
• Shape integration of parts intelligence with MaintainX product over time.
