Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a seasoned Inventory/Cost Accountant to manage month-end journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analyses for domestic and international operations. You will collaborate with IT, warehouse, and finance teams to ensure GAAP-compliant reporting and accurate stock valuation.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in inventory or cost accounting in retail/wholesale, strong Excel skills, and experience with Oracle Fusion or similar ERP systems. Regional travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 5+ years of inventory or cost accounting experience (retail/wholesale preferred).
• Solid understanding of GAAP and internal controls for related areas.
• Proficiency with ERP/accounting systems (Oracle Fusion preferred).
• Working knowledge of stock ledger and reconciling to GL (Oracle Retail Management a plus).
• Advanced Excel skills and comfort with large data sets; AI experience a plus.

Responsibilities

• Prepare month-end journal entries for domestic/international freight, inventory adjustments, accruals, and amortizations in line with GAAP.
• Prepare month-end account reconciliations.
• Provide inventory and COGS variance analyses using forecast and prior-year trends.
• Research and resolve stock ledger and inventory discrepancies with IT, warehouse, and system owners.
• Perform quarterly audits of e-commerce orders in local stores.
• Assist with semi-annual physical inventory reconciliation and reporting for stores, DCs, and Internet operations.
• Collaborate with auditors to support audits and compliance.
• Improve inventory accounting processes and support during peak periods.
• Ensure accuracy in inventory valuation, COGS, stock ledger integrity, and reporting.
• Work closely with merchandising, logistics, IT, and finance teams.

• Prepare month-end account reconciliations
• Provide inventory and COGS variance analyses using forecast and prior-year trends
• Research and resolve stock ledger and inventory discrepancies with IT, warehouse, and other system owners
• Perform quarterly audits of e-commerce orders in local stores
• Assist with semi-annual physical inventory reconciliation and reporting for stores, distribution centers, and Internet operations
• Collaborate with external and internal auditors to support successful audits and compliance
• Improve inventory accounting processes
• Support inventory team members during peak periods
• Perform ad hoc analyses and reporting
• Ensure accuracy in inventory valuation, COGS, stock ledger integrity, and reporting
• Work closely with merchandising, logistics, IT, and finance teams

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 5+ years of inventory or cost accounting experience (retail or wholesale industry experience preferred)
• Solid understanding of GAAP and internal controls for related areas
• Proficiency with ERP/accounting systems (Oracle Fusion preferred)
• Working knowledge of stock ledger and reconciling to GL (Oracle Retail Management experience a plus)
• Advanced Excel skills and comfort working with large data sets; AI experience a plus
