Job summary

University of Utah Health in Salt Lake City is seeking an experienced Inpatient Intraoperative Nurse to support the operating room across surgical service lines. You will advocate for patients, maintain sterile conditions, and coordinate care through the intraoperative phase.

The role requires full RN licensure in Utah (or eligibility via the interstate compact) and completion of the RQI eCredential within 30 days of hire.

Qualifications

• Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Utah, or obtain one within 90 days under the interstate compact if residency is switching to Utah.
• Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system; must be obtained within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Performs all essential functions of an N1 and functions as a fully competent Inpatient Intraoperative Nurse across all surgical service lines.
• Demonstrates working knowledge of surgical instrumentation and equipment; serves as a resource and troubleshoots equipment off the sterile field.
• Manages complex intraoperative cases, anticipates imaging/implants coordination, and initiates actions within established protocols.
• Sets up and manages specialized equipment and supplies (robotics, positioning, implants); resolves workflow and supply issues in real time.
• Maintains safety and sterility by adjusting intraoperative workflow and performing readiness checks and contingency planning.
• Provides patient and family education for moderately complex procedures and ensures thorough handoffs to PACU/ICU per protocol.
• Precepts junior staff and assists with onboarding; serves as a go-to resource within the home service.
• Works rotating schedules including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet 24/7 needs.
