Job summary

Yellowstone National Park is seeking a Field Unit Local Hiring Authority (FUL) – Supervisory Park Ranger (Interpretation). You will lead interpretive programs on-site and off-site, supervise staff, and ensure safety through comprehensive safety plans and education programs.

The role requires mentoring frontline staff, applying interpretive principles, and managing public interactions under demanding conditions across a northern mountainous park. Expect long days and travel as needed.

Qualifications

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Uniform required with uniform allowance.
  • Weekend work required.
  • Probationary period of 1 year.

Responsibilities

  • Provides guidance and leadership in decision-making for interpretive programs, both on-site and off-site.
  • Ensures visitor and employee safety through ongoing development of park, Resource Education and Youth Programs, and local Safety Plans.
  • Supervises permanent and temporary employees performing visitor center and interpretive services, and outreach.
  • Develops professional level interpretive training, coaching, and mentoring to frontline interpretive staff.
  • Uses interpretive principles to ensure programs are prepared and presented, and public interactions are effective.
